I’ve had mine for a month and love it. Just a net in my garage, so I needed a photo unit vs a radar. Even after buying an iPad that’s dedicated for this, I’m still under $1k for a setup that includes ball and swing data. I found Calloway chrome tour x balls (with trutrak soccer ball pattern) do surprisingly well for detecting spin.

Its not a 1 for 1 replacement for a club. It'll scratch the itch, but it wont give you accurate club path data. Really just swing speed only.

I got the Square before Thanksgiving. It’s Awesome. The putting and chipping are great. I actually like the 10 courses included. Anther 10 are coming soon. The remote is nice to make aiming easier. The swing stick works well, I have already used this more than I thought I would. I returned my Skytrak and kept this instead. A great monitor.

Interesting. My son is buying a house across the street from us and it has a huge shop in it. I thought about using the Garmin R10 there for a home simulator for both him and myself but this might be something to consider, especially with GS pro being supported. It probably won't happen for a few months to a year but this is something I might want to put together. It looks like a relatively lower budget way to get something that will work well for a winter golf simulator indoors.

Try it on an outdoor range with real balls, also the swingstick. Big help for us with no indoor room or can hit into a net outside.

Hi Gabe, thx for the review. Is there anyway you can give the square a test outdoors, out of direct sunlight? Say at a range or in a shaded outdoor area? I only have enough space to put the Square on a my terrace, which doesn't get direct sunlight and was wondering if the unit would still work under those conditions.

Another small drawback is that there is no data on swing speed and accordingly on smash factor. So it seems that the device mainly focusses on ball data, although it captures club path, which is great.

Great look at this unit. I have had mine for a few weeks and it’s really amazing. A clear protective cover may be needed to protect a wayward shot from damaging the unit.

Can you play it when plugged in or do you have to charge battery? Can you just put sharpie marks on normal ball?

Yes on plugged in, sharpie marks work but must be dark. But can mark your screen if you have one.

Great video. Would be great to know how accurate the club data is compared to the more expensive units. I was considering a Mini Light but if this is accurate enough I would obviously get this. I need to work on angle of attack etc. so for me it is important. Some people also found a problem chipping under 3 feet. Is club data passed through to GSPRO?

The IOS/Ipad/Iphone software also allows custom screen ratios (e.g 1:1) negating the need to set up custom resolutions on a computer. Great for those running different projector screen sizes.

I'll answer my own question to maybe help others who may be wondering. I just read from a couple of current owners that it's an infrared issue. Two guys said when they opened their garage door, the unit stopped working. When they closed the door, it worked again.

I am in Colorado. Had a totally bad experience. Yes price is low. Distances were not even close. 138 on my Driver 100 to 120 on most other clubs. Then couldn't load virtual courses. All kept freezing. Returning it,can't get anyone on phone emails only.

It would be a pain, you use an alignment stick (provided on back of unit) . Easy to align but you wouldn’t want to be moving each hole Painful if you want to play together

@ look at the bright side the left handed guy would probably not come back. The unit picks up multiple units, but you can only choose one. If you could have 2 selected, it would be smoother , but twice the cost.

I would take this fee structure over subscription all day long. If my math is correct...1000 credits for $20 equals $0.02 per credit. One credit per hole x $0.02 two per credit equals $.36 cents per round of golf or $1.44 total for your full 18 with a foursome of buddies!

Gabe, I agree to disagree with your statement that for a launch monitor “accuracy” is most important quality of a launch monitor. For simulator golf specifically, I believe that consistency is more important than accuracy. Here’s why: my indoor swing is different than my out door swing, a well known phenomena. As long as my 100 yard indoor swing registers as a 100 yard shot consistently, I can play virtual golf happily, even though the IRL shot may be 5 yards further.

Sweet I’m glad your videos have been an amazing experience I thought I was subscribed but when you David that you were giving away one I looked and was confused I wasn’t subscribed but I am now your videos are great …. I haven’t been in bed for 10 years on and off with pshariatic arthritis I’ve had both knees and both hips replaced and now I’m getting my jaw replaced so it’s hard to have confidence to go out side ..…… but I was a scratch golfer at 30. I am currently 41 and I got my life back I have been great for 4 months and golfing helps the rehab but it’s extremely expensive when u can’t work it’s not a sob story it’s just how the cards feel …. I just build a sweet indoor driving range for under 150 …. it would be real sick to have a chance at winning that square launch… I was saving up… but I reallly haven’t had great results so far with luck but I got off alll the medications and my life is Back that’s better than any thing money can buy ….

I am wondering if that would that be helpful at all, as a foam ball will give much different results in terms of ball speed and how it reacts off the club face compared to a real ball, so even if it read a foam ball accurately, you would get much different results.

Bought the balls too but RCT balls work fine for me as well. I prefer the RCT

Fundamentally RCT balls won’t work to get accurate spin data with this device. RCT has material inside of the ball for radar to track. The Square only has a camera so it needs to track the black dots on the outside of the golf ball.

Looks interesting, but deal breaker for me that it doesnt work outdoors, as I dont have an indoor place to hit balls, so I need something that will work at the range and doesnt require special balls, so will work with range balls. Would be interesting to see how it fares outdoors with range balls or regular balls. Given that they dont recommend it and provide special balls, probably would not fare well enough I suppose to be useful, otherwise they would recommend it.

I reached out to Square to ask if you could use this for both left and right handed golfers playing together at the same time and was told that its possible to do. But is it actually feasable to do or would you have to calibrate the unit every shot if your moving it back and forth?

Yes you can use for both. No need to calibrate. You could draw a line on the mat to mark it off if you wanted.
