Rapsody's undeniable talent on the mic has cemented her place as one of the most gifted rappers of this generation. The GOATs and legends acknowledge her as such, and her fans adore her. But, when stages were closed during the pandemic, she- like many of us- was forced to focus on what she thought of herself. That inner journey led her to realize that she needed to dissect the thoughts that kept swirling in her head because most of them were holding her back from who she was and all she could be. She tapped in to her healing journey... A process that would lead her to turn down the industry’s opinions of her life to turn up the sound of her own voice.
Through reading, deep conversations with her closest friends, guided meditation and even Pinterest quotes, Rapsody started to give language to her feelings. And that language would become the foundation of her new studio album, “Please Don’t Cry.”
In this conversation, Gia and Rapsody revisit the eras of her life from being little Marlanna Evans in North Carolina, to becoming the woman who sets the standard of excellence for today’s lyrical-focused emcees. Listen as she shares her childhood experiences, how she dealt with a bad break up, her real feelings on being the gold standard of women in hip hop, her healing work (and how therapy is still on her bucket list to do), and more.
As always, this is going to be GOOD.
Rapsody's new album, "Please Don't Cry" is available everywhere for streaming and purchase on May 17th. Find out more about the album, merch, and upcoming events near you at rapsody.komi.io/
