The only reasons I can see myself using the Vanguard over the Tactical are mobility and self-heals. If I am not going and fighting in the face of the opponent with grapnel launcher + melta rifle, I just feel like I am using a diet Tactical. I struggle to enjoy the Vanguard used as a mid-range precision gunner.

I completely agree. Imagine, on the other hand, if it was basically as powerful as a fragmentation grenade. That would be awesome. Perhaps too strong, but honestly, I don't think that would be far off from what it should be. Maybe a little bit less AOE, but more damage on the target you actually grapnel.

Grapnel launcher feels so overwhelmingly weak. It only synergize with melta as it allows melta user to close in the distance. With the other 2 guns however, they promote more of a mid range engagement so theres very little incentive to grapnel.

I use the Instigator Carbine and balanced knife. I do pretty well but I agree, not my favorite class. Assault and Bulwark melee better and Sniper and Tactical have way better guns.

They should have given Vanguard that small smg gun that sniper has, and given him perks that synergize close range with bolt weaponry. Just get rid of all those stupid “when you’re almost dead” perks that no one uses. Better for class fantasy, and would be fun to play. Vanguard should wreck with close range weapons across the board considering his class mechanic. Melta for wave clear/stagger, ammo dump bolters for dps.

Sniper has the marksman bolt carbine in the bolt carbine weapon tree, it has a scope. The Occulus just got the ability to use its scope with the patch

I agree. The occulus should be on sniper and include a semi auto marksman variant and full auto like the occulus and the bolt carbine smg should just be an smg and on the vangaurd

@@Bigborian92783You literally get a semi auto marksman carbine on the sniper. After you level the bolt carbine to green tier, you'll get SMG and Marksman variants to choose from.

Ye im warming up to occulus too. Scope gives it new possibilities although I wish it had some Infrared or enemy higlight enabled ( as its the carabine specialised in urban smokey combat, in kill team it ignores smoke nades)

genuine question, why us this a better option than the instigator I level my vanguard and relied the delta but I'm considering a second.

It's a better option against chaos because of the fully automatic and fast fire rate, it regenerates your contested health much faster than instigator. When i tested both, the instigator just didn't fire fast enough to get them into execute before they recover from grappnel launcher stun even when hitting headshots. Also, because of the short pauses in pulse fire, your contested health goes down little by little when surrounded where as occulus, you regenerate as fast as you take damage, so you lose very little if any health damage. They both have the finisher reload perk, which is amazing since you can just bounce from one execute to the next and not have to reload when you're in the thick of the fight. Also i dunno if this is intentional but i noticed when you scope in on the occulus from distance your weapon spread is so small and the recoil is almost nothing so you can actually get long range automatic headshots on chaos marines. The instigator tends to kick a bit harder but its burst fire, so you would naturally reset your targeting anyways. I just felt the occulus was more efficient in that way at range too. This helps a TON on reliquary where you can't really grapple to them when a heldrake is constantly setting the bridge on fire.

Why would a gun be more accurate when you aiming through its scope? The bullet spread shouldn’t be THAT much of a different.

I thought so too but then i tried it and its a significant difference if you hit the head. Its a combination of the super fast fire rate of the occulus and the fact that the headshot is a multiplier rather than flat damage. It ramps up a lot of damage quickly
