If for whatever reason they decide to make a proper remake/sequel to this game, I hope they call you up for this. This is an excellent modernization of a much beloved obscure game, one of--if not *the*--best ones I've heard thus far. In particular, I like your rendition of "Hangar," as it maintains a level of suspense most others throw right out the window. "Death" was also beautifully done. "Raptor III" sounds like it could have come out of a Sabaton album. "Raptor VII" is grandiose befitting a finale. This work deserves far more attention than it has gotten after a year, but I may be biased on that opinion. Awesome work, keep it up!

Your work of art commands respect. Most people 'remix' just by replacing sound fond, often mutilating whole portions of the track in the process. Like pitch bending. You, in contrast, seem to be taking careful care, respect the original tracks, yet improve the overall quality, patching things up where necessary. And mainly, adding more value into the piece, which nobody else seems to do. You fixed "Wave 1" for me. I always kind of hated the sloppy improvisation in there. You toned it down a bit, removed the many missed notes from the original, and added legato to the cringy ending of the solo. You're my hero.

Yep, there were a bunch of little "mistakes" in the other tracks as well. I tried to fix it as well as I could, while still trying to be true to the original.

This sounds amazing! I loved Raptor as a kid, and still enjoy it today. Really awesome that you did the whole soundtrack too; I've heard some nice remixes/covers over the years, but never all of the tracks!

What you've done with this is phenomenal. Every time I listen through I find new details that you've added, that takes passion beyond belief and has not gone unnoticed. You are a master of your craft, do you do this for a living? Did you record all of these instruments yourself?

Hey Dave, thank you. :) Yes, I do have a lot of passion for producing music in general and for this soundtrack in particular. I produce jingles and video game soundtracks as a side job. I do have a different day job thought, which is good, because - as fun as it is - it's not easy to find well-paid jobs as a small composer. No, theses are all virtual instruments that I bought for my DAWs. Theoretically, I could play some of the instruments that are being used in this soundtrack remake, but recording them takes so much longer than using a virtual instrument and it doesn't necessarily sound better.

Great remake of the soundtrack! You've turned many of the original tracks into pieces that could stand on their own feet, not just as mere background music to accompany the action. Some of the originals were rather simple and short, and I was impressed how much you were able to expand upon the pieces, considering what you had to work with. Or, perhaps, it was exactly the simplicity of the originals, that in part allowed to easily build upon their base riffs? I also liked how you had clearly put some thought on the ordering of the tracks, as well. It was a good call to save track VII for last, as an epic climactic finale, as it was the track used in the final wave of the game, after all.

Thanks! :) Yeah, it was a lot of fun to expand upon the pretty simplistic riffs and melodies that were already there. They left a lot of space for interpretation, but still gave me a solid base to come back to after taking a compositional detour. I'm glad you enjoy it!

Huh, I've never worked with a Genos. I use a conglomerate of plugins, virtual instruments and DAWs that I've bought over the years. But glad you enjoy it. 😉

For synth-stuff I mostly use Propellerhead Reason's built-in devices. I'm a huge fan of their Europa shape-shifting synthesizer. That one's incredibly versatile. Drums in the Rock/Metal parts of the Soundtrack are either Reason Drummer or EZ Drummer2. The guitars and orchestral stuff is mostly virtual instruments from Soundiron or Impact Soundworks, both developers with generally pretty affordable VIs for Kontakt, which I'm sure you're familiar with.

@@Ebbelboiz Haha ... I got Shredd 2, because I'm more of a writer than "jammer", so it fit perfectly into my workflow. Also I don't have a baritone guitar. Still a lot of post-processing required.... you know how it is ;) Currently playing around in our current practice room. Since we don't have all equipment here, the setup is kind of a mess, but that just adds to the charm.

Raptor and Quake 2 have so much in common - both games paved the way for breakout hits in their respective genre to follow and everyone fondly remembers both of the games for their soundtracks. Whether you're playing updated interpretations or going for fresh takes, this soundtrack is bring back memories and is getting me psyched to play some runs... Any plans for a soundtrack mod to bring this into the game(/s)?

The more I listen the better it gets. Main Menu theme and VI are good, too. What makes them interesting is that they don't adhere to one chord progression, plus the parts around 2:23 onward, the final notes of each measure plays a bit differently, what's this musical technique called??

It's not really about wanting to be better than the original. It's an interpretation of the original out of respect for the OST. However, I'll keep it in mind, if I ever do another remake of this soundtrack. 😂
