I remember it as the general MIDI. And compared to that version, none of these sounds seem to sound anything like they're supposed to XD. I like this version but I think it's ironic bc Soundblaster/adlib was supposed to be better than general MIDI, right? And yet all the sounds just sound like straight up synth sounds. The MIDI version has a mock-grandiose element where some of the instrument sounds sound pretty close to orchestral ones, and the "electric guitar" from wave one in MIDI always sounded pretty awesome in this synthy guitar way. This one sounds great (I'm not a hater), but it just sounds more straight keyboard. Also, why is there literally like no snare at all in Adlib? I mean, that's kind of important XD. I'm just weirded out that anyone would make a sound system with these deficiencies and then claim it's better than MIDI. But maybe i'm wrong about that claim... could be I'm remembering it wrong!! So oops if it is!! Don't get me wrong, MIDI has less proper synth sounds if I remember right, but idk, to my ears it just sounds closer to like a real live instrument soundtrack. But hey bro, it's all how you remember it. Each person has their own version they remember and to them that will always be the best version. So rock on.

@@starvio97 Adlib OPL3 is a simple but programmable synth. You can make a lot of different sounds, but they all sound like blip-blop. The chip is great for some styles of music if the composer spends a lot of time. General Midi has 128 predefined instrument set. This includes drums and many sounds that are impossible to get sounding good with an OPL3 based synth. Many games just made do with general midi music and programmed the OPL3 to sound similar to the GM instruments. That is where most of the "bad" soundtracks come from. You couldn't make GM sound anything like OPL3, so many games went for maximum compability and used GM. The Roland MT32 was another popular option, this was a pre-GM synth with loads of samples and some programmability. Take a listen to the soundtrack of Dune 2 for a sort of best-of-both-worlds soundtrack. Dune 2 MT32: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYKkdY2bd5Ktbq8 Doom has a straight GM style soundtrack. Listen to it on the Roland SC55 synth it was composed for compared to the OPL2 version. Adlib: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5uqioN9nrN9ors SC55: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qH3ZhHdrfdp8mac

there's one multiplayer game out now that allows you to replicate what you described in part... it's called Marauders... it's a first person shooter game... but once you get out of the "space station" there's this section of the game where you gotta drive your spaceship back to your home station
@FeelingShred
@FeelingShred Жыл бұрын
in these spaceship sections, when you play the game in Multiplayer Cooperative mode, player 1 controls the ship and player 2 controls the Weapon Turret up on top... it reminded me of the story you said 👍

Game Over track brings back so many memories I forgot about. I sometimes used to goof off and play this game back in High School, die in a boss fight a few times and then contemplate life as I sat staring at the screen. Hearing this test gives me a eerie weird urge now to study for a non-existing math exam :D.

What I love about wave 1 music (well and I guess technically all the level music) is that because the level scrolls at a constant speed, you begin to associate changes in the song with certain incoming enemies. LIke for me 5:51 makes me think of the section where the ships that drop money come across diagonally in groups of three : /

It appears to be a rather popular sound. Every other year I'd be watching something and notice it. I think I even heard it in a documentary once during a 'dramatic' CG animation. I'm sure there is a WAV of the original high quality sound somewhere but I have not been able to find it yet.
