If that car was in commercial service (I'd say it was based on the heavy gauge vinyl seats front and rear, no a/c this wasn't a millionaires ride) it has a LOT of miles on it. It probably ran all day every day for years.

I learned to drive in my mom's 1963 Plymouth Belvedere. It had that same push button transmission. There is a "Park" lever to the left of the buttons and it is in Park when the lever is down. You can't push any of the gear selection buttons with it in "park". Once you start the car, lift the Park lever to the up position, and then press the "Drive" button to put in gear and drive forward. When you want to park, come to full stop and move the park lever back to the down position (the gear select button will automatically move to the "Neutral" selection). Oh, and the gas tank filler was behind the rear license plate which was spring loaded and flipped down for access.

Man, those 413s made 340 HP and 470 ft lb of torque. I have a feeling with the amount of rust on that one cylinder that the rings will never be able to seal against it, so it might be down a hole, but that's a great engine for the time.

There is a flat area for stamped letters n numbers. It is at front driver side (opposite of the distributer). If you are standing in in front of the grill/rad it is just to the right and a bit aft of the water neck/thermostat housing. It is a horizontal surface at about the same level as the block wall. If it is a 413 it be stamped T-41. T= 1963, 41 = 413, 1963 383 = T-38. 1963 361 would be T-36. These were hand punched and were not always very deep--may need to scrub clean to see. For block casting info (year etc.) you need to remove the starter.

Lots of work on the engine is need of work. My brother-in-law worked on an engine that had a very bad piston wall. And he did bring a replacement block that was in perfect shape. But my friend's dad did not want to pay for it. So, we built the engine anyway. And it rean pretty good. I saw my friend 3 years later and that engine was still running. That we never would happen. Now you are talking how me and one of my cousins did when we picked up an engine from the junk yard. We did know it needed to be rebuilt it, we wanted to hear it run first. Pretty crazy but that is what we did. I would like to see this engine rebuilt and running. I know you will have a much better chance to see the engine run. Please rebuild that engine!

It's a Chrysler...they never run right. lol I have a funny story about one....so my grandfather bought a brand new 1973 Chrysler Imperial. They took it on a family trip to Florida. My uncle had just gotten his drivers license. He and my dad wanted to go to the beach and meet girls. After nagging my grandfather for a while, he finally caved and said "ok you can take the car to the beach." Back then, you could drive on the beach. They drove it on the beach...a little too close to the water. Tide came in. They went to move it, but it was a one wheel wonder, and just kept digging itself deeper and deeper into the sand. They had to call a tow truck. BY the time the tow truck got there, he had to swim a line out to the car. They winched it in, opened up the doors, water came rushing out like Niagra Falls. They went to fire up the motor, and surprisingly, it started. The next day, they cleaned the car out, then started driving back to NJ. They were at a red light, when my grandfather said "You know, for what the car went through, this is a GREAT car. It is so great, I am going to write a letter to the CEO of Chrysler telling him what a great product he has!" No sooner he said that, light turned green, he hit the gas, and you heard BANG! Transmission blew up. They had to leave the car in Florida to be repaired. A month later, my uncle and my grandfather had to meet people in Newark to pick up the car..turns out, 2 hippie guys drove it up. There were peace signs painted all over the car, and when they opened the door, you could see the cloud of pot smoke coming out of the car. My grandfather being a very classic conservative, WW2 veteran, just yelled "That's it! We're selling the car!" It didn't bother him the car was submerged in saltwater...the hippie guys is what did it. lol
