I have a 72 SS 396 Camaro, factory 4 speed, non air car. The one in the video is quite nice. I also have the cowl hood but it is not stock. The VIN on my car is quite late in the production as the Norwood strike start April 7. My car was build last week of Feb/first week of March in 1972. Have only found 3 other SS396 1972 Camaros with higher VIN numbers so far. GMs records are either nonexistent or a mess. Love these beasts!! Truly the fastest thing I have ever owned from gas pump to gas pump!!!

My 70 z had the stock hood Always thought the cowl should be carried over to the 2nd Gen, or maybe the stinger hood Love cold air induction

I know they whacked H.P. on a 396 by 1972, the paint and color is spot on, it looks like it was dipped, somebody knows how to paint for sure. In my teens, early 80`s, there was a 70 Camaro, Hugger Orange, black stripes named Sassy on the rear spoiler, the Chargers, Cudas, Chevelles could not even touch that car, it think it was a 454 car. By far it was the fastest car in our neighborhood, my buddy had a 440, 6 pack Charger, and we couldn`t touch that Camaro, the guy took off the engine call outs, so we never knew what he was running, and he never shared. We cruised Gratiot every weekend, about 30 minutes north of Detroit, that Camaro brings back some memories guys, it looks stunning, I love the rallyes, take care.

ONLY 240 HP rating for the '72 SS396 in this car...

Not a 396.Its the LS3 402,and that's what the engine was finally correctly referred to as starting in 1971.1972 last year of the bb Camaro,and production numbers were low for a bb Camaro.Pretty rare .
@gordocarbo

Guys that decade pulled the BB out and in went small blocks, 2 bbl carbs and maybe an Isky supercam or Elgin RV cam.

Love the cloth seats on these. 396 is such a great overall engine for camaros like this PLenty of torque last a long time easy to fix. I want to reach through my monitor and cut out the back of that cowl to get more air in lol

As someone that lived through those times, big block second gen Camaros were extremely rare. Z28's were much more common. Probably why the price is so high. We knew the 396 was .30 over(402) starting in '70. We still called them 396's.

End of 396 engine at the end of 1970 production year. How can numbers match on this ‘72?

It's a great car, for sure, but I guess I'm too old for it. I'm so used to these cars everywhere back in the day with flat hoods, I just can't un-see that now.

Sweet car. A very good friend has a 72' SS 396 4 Spd Numbers matching. I believe there were only 249 made in 72' with the 4 Spd. He has the big rectangular port heads on it but he does have original casting heads for it. Other than an upgrade to 16" tires it is basically original. Super sweet ride. The strike at Chevy was the main reason for low production numbers. I don.t believe the cowl hood is original....

IMO, the split bumper looks better. Along with the original rally wheels. Are you sure that Cowl Hoods original, too? Just a suggestion, include some footage of the underneath as well.
@skxj

Split bumper cars were RS option, the SS got the full bumper, If you ordered an RS/SS you would get the split bumper.

@@skxjwith the bigger motor, rs was a visual package and ss and z28 were performance packages. You could not get a car with two performance packages like a ss z28 but you could get a rs ss or a rs z28

@@johnie19644 that's right, my point is the split bumper option came only with the RS package whether you ordered an RS , an RS/SS or an RS/Z28 these cars would all have the split bumper. If you ordered an SS or a Z28 you would get the full width front bumper.

Almost bought a '71 396. The SS396 alot less money than the Z package, was rated at 300 HP but had more torque than the Z28 and came with 3.42 gears. Supposedly they only built 600 SS396 Camaros and only 200 we're 4SP manual transmissions

Had a 70 Z and while it was a great package these Camaros were a little heavy. A big block is perfect in this case. Nothing like that low end grunt!
