Many women do not survive an amniotic fluid embolism. Eli Burr died last month from the devastating birth complication. Now, her family is spreading awareness.

2-3 yrs before this, a woman, Lauren Accurso, passed away from the same thing. She was a mother of 3 girls already, & passed away while having an emergency C-section for her son, her 4th child. Then their son passed away 21 days later from oxygen loss during childbirth. Her husband is also raising awareness for AFE. Prayers for this family.. her husband, children, parents, family & friends. I'm so sorry for your loss. She was beautiful.

I can’t imagine what this family is going through. There are no words to describe the loss. I pray that family continues to surround them in these moments and lift their spirits. Amazing that they are putting their effort and strength into raising awareness. God bless them richly even though the loss seems so unfair.

I myself went through this 6 years ago. Thank god my baby and myself both made it through by some miricle. I was in my coma for 5 days and now have memory loss and major cardiac problems that followed the heart attack. It is something my doctors knew nothing about and everyone panicked in the hospital that day. The grace of god saved us, not medical advice. I thank him everyday. Im so sorry this lovely lady didnt get the opportunity to live on and may god bless her soul and her baby. The gift of new life can also come with a life lost but i wouldnt go back and change anything even if i could. Id rather my child live on for me. Blese this family lord amen

If the doctors really knew nothing you’d be dead now. If this happened to you outside of a hospital you’d also be dead now. I’m so sorry you had to go through this but so fed up of people thanking god and completely ignoring the doctors that actually saved them. Yeah sure if you believe in god you can also believe that he trained the doctors and had them nearby to save you. But trust me if you had an AFE and only relied on god/prayer you’d pretty much be dead.

I’m so glad you made it thru ! It is a miracle bc hardly anyone has heard of this .

Highly doubtful. A U.S. Hospital would have been knowledgeable to an AFE patient 6 yrs ago. Heart attack during delivery…absolutely can happen.

I found the critical error. The doctors should not have moved her to the OR!! Everyone should know that a resuscitative c-section needs to be complete within 5 mins of the code starting. 4 mins to start..baby must be out within 5 mins. No moving mother…it can be done on the bathroom floor or bed or anywhere. No time for gowning and dressing. Literally gloves and hydrogen peroxide on site and quick incision

Even if things are done right, survival is low. Only 20% survive.

Thank God you survived. I hope your baby did as well. My younger sister is pregnant with her second. She is due in January and this terrifies me. I can't have children. I'm so glad that my sister didn't get my medical issues. I did something right as her big sister. I'm so glad you survived and are still with us.

Not true, if doctors/nurses are trained to spot it quickly yes both baby and mother can survive. Breaking her waters to speed things up. I’m guessing she was lying down, I’ve heard from others who said this was the exact moment they started crashing.
