Rare and Vibrant: The Colorful Sky Island Brook Trout Vanishing from New Mexico

Dig a bit deeper. Use all your resources. Maps, books, Gov websites, personal blogs, and YoutTube videos (even though that is totally spot burning according to guides & locals). Gain as much knowledge on a place and time before you ever jump into that adventure. The added layers of history and better understanding of topography will no doubt add meaningful layers to your trip outside of just the fish.
The Southwest is full of strange stories, but underwater ghost town was certainly new for me. Looking into the grizzly past I can see why some folks would think this mountain valley is haunted. But it seems ironic that this catchy headline doesn't really fit anymore.. The town is but a silty lake bottom, and much like the original inhabitants, the brook trout will be nothing but a memory soon.
