Since many animals are nocturnal, trail cameras are one of the best ways to see what's out there. One of my trail cameras caught an animal that is pretty rare to say the least. I have included it in this video for the enjoyment of all.
A total of five trail cameras were used in the making of this film. The two newer ones have the best sound quality. Several have asked me what camera I was using for the good night footage. Here is the link for those interested:

@Squires Castle Thanks. I normally don't position my cameras facing East or West due to bad footage from sun rays, but the way the trail was, it was going to have to work. It ended up working perfect. Some of the trees blocked the rays from hitting the actual camera.

Thank you very much. I didn't start off with getting a ton of animals in mind. I wanted to take an inventory on the deer in the area, and also I am doing a little study. It has to do with deer movement (particularly bucks) and weather changes. If I hadn't gotten the white opossum on my trail cam, I probably wouldn't have posted this video. I am very thankful so many people out there have a love for animals and have enjoyed the footage. Thanks for your comment.

Never having used a trail cam kzbin.infoUgkx2sTDdZXomuxedMg_HothfjSXjR3rpPkA before, I was very impressed with the quality of the images and videos. The sensitivity of the camera can be adjusted as well as the length of video recordings. Once I found the sweet spot, I was getting great clips of deer and other animals almost every day. I was worried about battery life but have been running off the same 4 aa batteries for over a month. The SD card is easy to remove and connect to a computer. I have a Mac, and the AVI files open natively in QuickTime and are easy to save and share. This is a great, budget-friendly trail cam.

Sounds like you decided to try it out. I like them better than all my previous cameras except one, but I paid over a hundred for that one. It had a display on the front, and you could tell exactly what your camera would capture as you mounted it into position.

Happy New Year, everyone! If you are like me, you really enjoy the outdoors. One thing I enjoy this time of year, besides hunting, is just being in the woods. My wife and son took a hike yesterday with me to pull a few SD cards and finish up 2022's trail camera sets. Normally, we have a sack or two to pick up any trash we see in the woods. This time, we found some of our own. About three years ago my wife lost a shoe while we were out in the woods. It somehow came out of one of her bags or something. Well, as she got close to the shoe, she knew right away it was her old shoe. (She'd taken them off while wearing hiking boots.) Anyway, get out in God's creation, and have a great 2023!

@@outdoorztime2923 Good evening Sir; you are very welcome. I know from personal experience that it does help the animals, I live in a mobile home park and have been assisting the animals outside of my house with providing them with year round water. I'm not allowed to give them food, park rules. I also keep an opening under the house for any animal that wishes to stay for as long as it wants. For the 12 years I've lived in the trailer no official person has given me any problem with what I do, thank goodness. I am a human servant for six rescued felines that have a forever home. All of them are indoor, fixed & are chipped. They are my emotional service companions and give me a reason to stay alive. "Humans want me - my furry friends need me, there's a Grand Canyon sized difference between the two." I tell people that have a problem with me and my household... I promised my cats that they come first and foremost & will be very much loved; treated with respect for the rest of their lives to the best of my human ability. @@outdoorztime2923 When we were in Australia, along the Bloomfield Track, feral pigs were hunted and the meat sold to Japan; it's too tough and stringy for Australians to eat. The hunters had cages on the back of their vehicles where they carried their pig-hunting dogs, who wore special collars with spikes on them. When I talked with them (the hunters, not the dogs) and told them how we treat our dogs (at least I and my friends do), they were amazed. These are working dogs, not pets.

@@paddlingpuppies Very interesting. I've heard if you want the best tasting wild hog for the grill, you want the young ones. Wild hogs are very dangerous. Years ago I liked watching a guy that hunted wild hogs a lot. His name was Shane Jones. I saw him shot one that was bedded down. It stood up, looked up and spotted him and then charged him for the kill. The hunter can become the hunted pretty quick! I am curious how the Japanese cook and prepare their wild pigs. As to the dogs, I am with you, I wouldn't hunt wild pigs with my pets. I suppose they don't get too attached with the ones that hunt...

Nice. I have a pure white skunk that visits my back yard here in East Tn. Also, a black bear that roams. I'm just 8 miles west of the boundary line to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Born and raised here. Got coyote problems. They have killed my deer, wild turkey, and even my house cat. Just bought 2 more game cameras so maybe I will try this too. Happy New Year. Maryville TN.

Thank you for the detailed comment, Mr. Fishburn. It sounds like you live in some pretty country. My parents took my siblings and I on a vacation to the Smoky Mountains when we were kids - such great memories! That's pretty cool when you run across rare mammals. I bet a lot of zoo keepers would like to have that pure white skunk you have living close by. Some predator hunting might be what you need to take care of a few coyotes. Skunks, opossums and coons will all raid turkey and other ground nesting birds (eating their entire hatch). Best of luck with your trail cameras, and if you are thinking of live-traps, Growing Deer TV has some good videos on their KZbin Channel. Cheers!

I just checked it out to take a look. Sadly, I haven't seen enough foxes to even know. What state do you live in? If we are far apart, that could play a roll. It sure is fun to watch them play and court - beautiful animals for sure. Living in the country is wonderful. It's really nice to see all the different critters doing their daily and nightly thing. I wasn't having much luck with the timers on my feeders. They play out too fast, so I ended up going to a gravity-type feeder. I ordered the Boss Buck trough from Amazon and got it installed with a little patience. If I get another time feeder, I plan to go with the ASF - All Season Feeder. They are better made and will hold up to hogs, too. Thanks for commenting and watching!

Thanks! They are Mountain Feist. Most people use them for squirrel hunting. They have a ton of energy. We started off with two, and now we have seven.

...rare animal, rare color of an animal... I'd say it's safe to say most of us have never seen a white opossum - pretty cool.

Yes, sir. A few others have said that, too. You wouldn't happen to know some good coon recipes, would you?

@@outdoorztime2923 when we first started getting visited by trash pandas I used to joke with my husband that it’s time to make coon stew, roasted coon, bbq coon, coon casserole. They get surprisingly huge here.

@@Lwah0812 You should give them a try. I've tried to cook one once - long ago. At the time, I didn't realize they have glands that you need to remove. That will make a huge difference in the taste. I have not tried one since, though.
