Don't miss this one: In December 1991 through January 1992 I participated in the very first extensive archaeological survey of caves at the Dead Sea--from Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, all the way to En Gedi. In this rare archive footage you see a younger Dr. Tabor talking about the Project, jointly sponsored by Robert Eisenman of California State Long Beach and James Tabor of UNC Charlotte.
Sign up for Dr. Tabor's on-line course: Jesus and the Dead Sea Scrolls. You work at your own pace, 10 lectures with abundant study materials, and monthly meetings on Zoom for Q&A and discussion. You can see more details and sign up here if it looks good to you:

Awesome, and it would be really really cool to find a letter from James. It really would. Thank you professor, as always.

Wow! So cool to share that moment with you. That crux moment, "what would you most like to find..." He smiles lightly, nods in rhythm... "a writing of James" eases out like it had been there before... ❤🎉😊

Oh no, young Dr Tabor is kinda hot.... 🤣 Heh 1992, I wasn't even in high school yet! Though I believe it was around that year I first read one of those Gideon Bibles in a hotel room, to the amusement of my parents who really are much too liberal (they let me watch "Die Hard" when I was six years old!).

Not sure why but the song by Chilliwack called Lonesome Mary popped into my mind. Lyrics: I went down to see lonesome Mary She was sitting all alone She was crying for the contrariness That made a desert of her home She was weeping and a-wailing You know she does it every day I said Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary How can you live that way She said I don't know Must be in my soul I guess I must be the most contrary Hard to get along with Person in this world Ooh, Lonesome Mary Ooh, Lonesome Mary Yeah, yeah, yeah I'm visualizing a female friend visiting and the lyrics are the conversation they had. With my bird's eye view, I'm thinking how difficult it might have been, post crucifixion, for forsaken Mary M to find a husband and Father for his young son.

I listened to a video yesterday on YT that was about who the Essienes actually were. They were the exiled Levites from the McAbbee/Hasmonean era according to this YT channel. These were the same levites that John the Baptist was living with. He said the evidence is very clearly stated in the ancient texts. I thought it made a lot sense. But I'm going to do more investigating.

Upon thinking about it,...I can see the possible connections with the Levites and the Essenes...with the priestly concerns and the purity laws, the conflict with the Jerusalem Temple Establishment and the community organization aspects...🤔 Very interesting. I did a little looking and found this regarding. "Despite these points, it is essential to note that the evidence is not conclusive. The historical record on the Essenes is limited and primarily comes from outside sources, with the Dead Sea Scrolls offering valuable but sometimes ambiguous insights into their beliefs and practices. The diversity within the Essenes, as suggested by some scholars, means that they could have included members from various backgrounds, not exclusively Levites. In conclusion, while it's an interesting theory that the Essenes might have had significant Levite or priestly elements within their ranks, or even that they originated as Levite exiles, direct evidence to confirm this hypothesis is lacking. The relationship between the Essenes and the Levites remains an area of scholarly debate and speculation, reflecting the broader complexities of Second Temple Judaism and the diverse religious movements within it." ~ ChatGPT

Lol 6:40 Oh silly James Tabor from the 90s. You wouldn't find a letter from James near Jerusalem, because he would already be in Israel sending a letter to a different location. No wonder he didn't find anything. Lel.

The fact that they tried to hide things were Romans wouldn’t look, makes me wonder about hidden areas. Has ground penetrating radar been tried on the ground and the walls of the caves?
