I hiked at Tennessee Valley today in Mill Valley and saw some beautiful California Pipevine Swallowtails!! I'd stop on the trail and try to follow each one with my eyes; I think one elderly couple on the trail thought I was losing my mind 'cause I'd just stop on the trail and crane my neck this way and that way. These iridescent beautiflies (beautiful butterflies) are gorgeous and made my hike so happy!! Thanks, Tim!

I'm in the process of planting some pipevine myself. Still cuttings under the soil, but they're beginning to emerge.

really ironic hearing the man say that theyre planting native plants and when they show the monarch's milkweed it is tropical milkweed which you should NOT plant

I started with Monarch a year ago and have released well over 400 to date. Started planting all sorts of butterfly plants and now this year have Blackswallowtails and then planted a pipevine and little soldiers all in a row are on the leaves. Brought some in as something keeps eating them and hope to release the pipevine swallowtail in the near future.

Hi Susan. Are the Monarchs doing well? One poor little thing I tried to save here in New Orleans but no luck but was sure it was a Monarch as we have Many Viceroy's. But this spring I had 2 Black Swallowtail caterpillar and one is gone but another is in Chrysalis and about to emerge although I have it outside and it is on the BBQ pit. I hope I get to see it. Are you raising them inside??

Fear not my friends. I met one this past weekend here in Tennessee and seems to be a few of them here. I named him Doug

The Doug that I speak of is the caterpillar Doug. The Doug that has come and will come again and rise up to the heavens til returning to Him that made him. I'll always remember you Doug. Doug was not harmed in our adventure. After 4 hours kayaking he was released near a breathtaking waterfall to live out his life. I hope you've enjoyed the story of Doug. Maybe one day he will land on your shoulder. I did assume this larvaes gender

A buddy of mine his friend found some pipevine caterpillars on the trail on discovery park in Sacramento River but sad thing is that they're fishermans so they used them as bait...
