Glad you are already reading comments post surgery! Don't laugh too much because that might hurt. That interior reminds me of an Oldsmobile Firenza we had back in the late 1980s. Unfortunately our car did not have that super nifty red phone:) Also our car did not have: reliability, acceleration, appeal, or really much of any positive qualities and Oldsmobile no longer exists!

Misha, you were driving it with unreleased handbrake as you can see by the red light in the dashboard. And yes, it has Air conditioning, ABS and also ASR (acceleration slip regulation aka Antriebsschlupfregelung), which can’t be turned off. By the way: Lady Diana had an 500 SL R129 and she had to give it back because it wasn’t a British car. Now it’s in the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart. So sad that she died in a W140.

That's like my E350. About the same amount of power. 5 Guage cluster, I have a similar phone holder, seats are similar. But that's one slim sun visor. Similar dash except mines has the screen inside but it still follows similar lines where the vents are and across. Aside from the headlights and obvious Nokia phone, it definitely still looks very modern and has today's performance. Mines a 13' sport package w212. That red interior is awesome. I really really like the steering wheel and the thigh extension on the seat. Mines instead has cubby boxes which are ok for drinks and random things but it's difficult at my height to find a good seating position. Impressive build and the wood is still dark. Mines unfortunately in the front has faded some which was a Mercedes manufacturing flaw they admitted to, saying the lacquer was too thin. Also the wood on the steering wheel is still good after so many years, wow, nice.

Yes, I remember the roll over story. The US and Europe were going to ban Convertibles outright, because of the numerous and gruesome roll-over deaths. Mercedes with their pop up roll-over hoop saved convertibles from extinction, then Porsche re-popularised the convertible with their Boxster, saving Porsche in the process. The EC button on older Mercedes controls the A/C compressor. EC = Economy mode, when it's on it turns off the compressor. Also the shift lever seems to be on backwards even though the AMG logo is facing the correct way.

I use to drive a 2002 Lexus LS430. It was so quite that I couldn't tell if the engine was running and the suspension was so smooth. It only had 290hp but moved well. Having another 100 hp like that Mercedes would have been amazing.
