- KINGSLEY NORTH -
Kingsley North is a lapidary store in Michigan's U.P. They make a great cab machine and sell many other brands too. They have a huge selection rough rock, tumblers, grit, jewelry supplies etc. at good prices. I buy most of my coarse grit from here in 45 lb. bags. It's the best price I have found. If you buy using the following link, I make a small commission.

I buy a lot of lapidary supplies from The Rock Shed. I don't make money from your purchases there, but they have good prices and good service. This is where I buy my finer grits and polish.

I also have an Amazon storefront. This is where you can find other products you may have seen in my videos. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. It doesn't cost you extra.

Cuyuna has some very interesting minerals, including some unique to that iron range. I have an idea what some of your "mystery" rocks were, but as always would have to see them in person to know for sure. If you go to our old friend Mindat, they have a pretty good explanation of Binghamite and the Cuyuna Range in general.

😂 humans like patterns I suppose the evolution of this comes from survival. Being able to spot a lion saves lives. To find a piece of Binghamite?

Binghamite almost looks pearlescent.
@MichiganRocks
@MichiganRocks Жыл бұрын
It's chatoyant, like tiger's eye. I'm not sure if pearlescent is quite right. I picture that as being a swirl of pastel colors, although I might be thinking of the wrong thing.

@@MichiganRocks You aren't wrong! It also reminded me of when, as an artist, I would wipe away excess graphite and the powder would get on something and give it that hint of metallic sheen. I heard you using that word and had no clue what you were saying. I was going to look it up later lol. I was also staring at a lot of the plants. There are a ton of cool rocks there. I would have kept the stripy ones and given them a coating of extra glossy Modge Podge. The rocks you cut and showed, should have wet them down! The last piece of the rock on the left looked like Ohio lol. Was going to tell you to send it this way. Oh, I wrote you back on IG. You never said your t-shirt size :)

@@saralynn518 I had a squirt bottle, but never did fill it up. The only time we got really close to the lake was when Thomas was skipping stones, but I totally forgot to fill it.

@@saralynn518 Oh. Yeah, I could have gotten those wet. I don't think they looked a whole lot different. Sometimes getting them wet makes them hard to video because of the glare.

I suppose you could smash it with a hammer. Make sure you protect your eyes and skin though. Rock shards can really fly and do damage.

That was a huge contrast to Michigan rocks. So I take it the hills were generated from expelled or unusable iron ore similar rock. Glad you finally found some to bring back to tumble. Very interested to see those results. The slabs came out nice.

Yes. The Keweenaw Peninsula has a lot of mine tailings piles similar to this, but with copper related minerals.

Very cool. That's a new stone to me as a lifelong Minnesotan. "When arranged in parallel lines, its called silkstone". Another stone on my list to learn about and maybe find :) What beautiful views there too.

I just put a link in the description about Binghamite. Silkstone and Minnesota Tiger's eye are closely related or possibly variations of the same thing.

When I got to 100,000 subscribers, I asked people for suggestions for my videos. I think the most common one was to travel more. Since I asked, I figured I should listen. That's what prompted this trip.
