@@DittoTurbo I'm 70 years old..I've followed rock music since 1962..owned 2 record stores and sold hundreds of thousands of lps..I promoted this band since the 1st lp..you don't understand what I said..I'll say it again..they were criminally underrated by the mass market..duh
@bobholtzmann2 жыл бұрын
@@groverbaker6404 I know what you mean - Rare Bird did get some minimal recognition in the 70s with hits like "Sympathy" and "Peace of Mind", but not much wide radio airplay beyond that. But I was fortunate to have a couple of FM radio stations that played a wider array of their songs, like "Beautiful Scarlet" and "Epic Forest".
@lostcat9lives3222 жыл бұрын
If mindless electronic keyboard noodling and trite lyrics is "criminally underrated" than yes. Not to be confused with the band "Yes". If you took Yes and removed the talent you would have something birdbrained like Rare Bird.

I'm sure the keyboardists knew some Beethoven works. In the Renaissance song "Island", John Hawken used some of Beethoven's "Pathetique" Sonata.

Yes - it's on the ABC Dunhill label. Part of the cover art uses an antique bird painting used for Rare Bird's first album, also on the ABC Dunhill label.
@Miler974872 жыл бұрын
@@bobholtzmann This was released simply on ABC, not ABC Dunhill. The previous album was on ABC/Probe. Van der Graaf Generator's H to He Who Am The Only One did get released on ABC/Dunhill (and The Least We Can Do is Wave to Each Other was on ABC/Probe). I own all these American pressings of the Rare Bird and VdGG albums so I should know. I also own both Rare Bird LPs as UK originals on the pink scroll Charisma label, both with different covers.

It's just a preference, but I don't like that term - back then it was called Progressive Rock, and for me, that's what it should be called. After all, we don't call Classical "Clas".

@bobholtzmann or ass rock or assid rock or clock for extra short. Call it whatever you want to. your love for it is the same then who cares. We shouldn't be worrying about the terminology police just sharing our love for Music

And for the record I don't think that at the time they called is classical. They too were progressive or progressivo! Well in Italy anyways. 🇮🇹 lol

Mindless electronic keyboard noodling and trite lyrics. If you took the band "Yes", removed the talent, you might end up with something birdbrainded like Rare Bird.
@ProfessorChocolateCake2 жыл бұрын
These are fair points but don't forget that this album was recorded only in 1970 when Prog was still in its early stages, just like with any other medium the pioneering days are very much trial and error and the drummer Mark Ashton would go on to become a really great painter, his artwork ironically enough would be perfect for the cover of a Yes album. It may be that music didn't quite work out for him, but had he not tried it, he would most likely not have developed his skills into painting.
