Wow - I'm amazed at how good of shape the Montaigne is in for being as old as it is. That is super cool!

So exciting! I just heard about Adler's book recently in an off-hand mention by someone and it caught my attention because of the concept of syntopical reading (reading multiple works to better understand one particular topic). I hadn't realized there was a term for that (beyond "obsessive research"), so my interest was piqued. What a great coincidence that you picked it up - looking forward to your thoughts on it! (Also, right there with you on the strain of holding larger physical books to read them - I feel like this wasn't a problem when I was younger... )

I love Weller's. A person should not take their checkbook or credit card in there. Cash only or you might have to go without eating for a week. My favorites of your picks are - ta da! Anna and How to Read a Book. Fabulous! That is just like having Christmas twice. Please, please do it again and tell us more. ❤

Ha, yes, it’s a dangerously expensive experience.

I love finding good used books. The Bertrand Russell essays got my attention. I live in Florida and there are not many used book stores in my area. The thrift stores don’t even want book donations.

That’s a bummer. I do love crispy new books, but it’s so much fun looking through old books for treasure.

I’m biased towards visual artwork so I wish there were more illustrations in modern adult books. I can understand the arguments against them though. All good.

The Anna Katerina book is a blast because of the illustrations. I agree. Having a few good pictures makes a big difference.

I’ve recently started buying from the local bookstore. I can get a book from Amazon faster and cheaper; however, ordering from this bookstore takes me back to the 90s when I had to wait. P.S. If “Anna Karenina” is broken in to 2 books, is there a cliffhanger at the end of book 1 🤔?

I agree! Going to a bookstore is a time portal. As for A.K., I’ll have to look at where to ends. I’m not sure.
