Nice set up, man. The Anubias was an improvement. I suggest a few shrimp and a Nerite snail to help fight off recurring algae. Love the Betta. He looks great against the dark background and substrate.

this little guy might be a menace as far as tank mates are concerned. will try a nerite though!

Shrimp might end up being eaten by the betta, its a gamble. Plus you don't have any carpeting plants for the shrimp to feel secure and hide in..so probably not a good idea. If you go the nerve snail route, be aware that they do lay lots of little sesame seed sized eggs everywhere. Those are unsightly but don't hatch in freshwater.

This turned out so good! Now I’m seriously considering getting a Fluval 5 as well. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of room left in my room so I have to be smart since I already have the Marineland 5 gallon contour. By the way, maybe add a Nerite snail or two in this tank. They’ll help eat the algae off from your tank.

out of this or the Marineland portrait, what is better? of course price is an important factor, but also footprint. I have a pretty small room and the portrait fits much better, however, I feel like this one is better because of the larger horizontal area

Get some liquid carbon and a small paint brush. Paint the affected anubias leaves with the liquid carbon during water changes. It gets rid of green spot algae. 👍

Ramshorn snails and otocinclus catfish clean up those brown diatom algae, but idk if otos are safe to be around a betta.

@@joannedwards6002 I bought the fluval spec v but I hated it, I actually ended up getting the Top Fin retreat 5 gallon aquarium from Petsmart my betta love’s it! You do need get a pre filter sponge for the water spout, because it’s too strong for a betta. Hope that helps!

If you add nerite snails they'll clean that alge off for you and look cute. My favourites are bumblebee staghorn nerite snail. They look cute, are smaller and nerites need brackish water to breed apparently so population is controlled.
