A few of the upfitters in the area are doing that now. The main reason is rear visibility because the SUV's have such a significant rake, and setting the bar back means they don't have to buy as many lights for the back of the vehicle. We just got a few Tahoe's with the FS Allegiant and the bar is so low profile that you can only see the corners until about 30-50 yards.

Weird part about this for me is that every fire station in my country always has lights in the street outside saying "stop when lights flash" to stop the traffic. These guys just pull out into fast moving traffic and hope for the best.

Alot of stations in Denver have lights like that (like station 5 or Station 9), This station in particular (station 1) is surrounded by traffic lights in close proximity to the station on both sides, so those lights just turn red when they get a call, that way drivers are not confused by having several sets of lights in just a couple hundred feet of each other.

There are not any really old parts of Denver any longer. The old areas have been demolished and rebuilt and streets are wide by most urban standards.

is it that common of a thing that a fire house needs a truck special for building collapse? in my area we have brush trucks and tankers due to forest fires and areas without water so we bring in the tanker task force but if an area needs a special truck to deal with all the building collapse because it is that common of a thing i dont think i would want to live there

A car crashed into a house and can cause a large array of issues. The house could collapse, which is why the collapse truck went out, it could also cause a fire so the engine and truck went out, and could possibly be a really complicated scene so the chief responded (the car)

There is a traffic light on either side at intersections, adding additional lights blocks traffic in the intersections which is no more productive. It’s an ideal location for a fire department to serve this neighborhood, but the two intersections will never be ideal.

MrRCGNL Cities use to have systems that could do that. NYC was always known to have control of traffic lights from inside the fire trucks. This practice in most communities has been banned because traffic signals now work off timers and control centers that adjust light timing to adjust to events such as rush hour or a sporting event. Most major cities will never give back light control to any EMS.

The small semi truck? That's a specialized response unit for possible buildings collapsing. It has special equipment for shoring up debris etc. It's called Collapse 1 since presumably that was station 1 as the engine and tower truck were both "1". Hope that helps.

That tower truck and the collapse unit probably outwiegh that engine by at least 50%. Engine is also shorter and more nimble. When you have over sized apparatus you gotta take different routes due to weight limits and turn radius limits. Big shit needs big roads.

I've seen rigs roll out of this station for years. The noise those federal Q sirens and loud air horns make would wake the dead, especially when the sound waves echo off nearby tall buildings. This station opened in 1976 and there's never been a traffic problem. If there was they would have addressed it with a light system.

Engine 1 was responding to a different call for service elsewhere. The location of the car into the house was at Martin Luther King Blvd. and Gaylord St. which is in Engine 10's first in response district. Tower 1 and the Collapse 1 are cross staffed, with Tower1 crewman driving the rig. They operate as a flying squad all over the city for structural damage incidents. Hope this helps.

Black Spider that collapse rig is one that is used only for special situations like building collapses or trench rescues. It is cross staffed with the FFs from Tower 1. So only when they need it two FFs take that rig while the other two respond with the tower. It is not the same as our two heavy rescues that we have.

@@blackspider9561 basically a specialized rescue truck. Most smaller to mid sized departments may have a rescue truck or trailer that has the basics for all rescues. Bigger departments have several different rescue trucks with specialized rolls and in turn a lot more specialized equipment. Around here there are no real what you would call big departments. The mid sized departments have 2 or 3 rescues that are all general rescue trucks equipped for all types of rescues. The smaller ones will have a single rescue truck/trailer or two, and several departments join together to form regional technical rescue teams (same with HazMat). Truly I find it amazing the response to this incident. Here it would have been handled with an engine or two and a truck. That car was not truly into a building and even then I've seen it handled with a couple of engines and a truck.

The car hit the house. Each type of incident has a set response for what equipment is sent. For a motor vehicle into a dwelling or building, Two pumper companies, one truck company, a rescue company and the building collapse rig is dispatched. It is better to have ample resources in route and recall them if they are not needed at scene, than to call for more and wait longer for them to arrive.
