Very nice. I don't love the boat tale on these, but they're such iconic bikes. I'd be happy to have one in my garage...or just take one for a spin. I'm digging all the vintage test rides.

The birth of a motorcycle legend! Here in the UK it was voted motorcycle of the year for five successive years from '68 to '72, (until Kawasaki's Z1 900 took it's crown).

Beautiful motorcycle...rolling art with a sound to die for. Wahoo!

My husband's first new motorcycle was a 1971 Commando Fastback Long Range. It had a 4 gallon steel tank that made it more practical for the long distances between petrol stations in Australia. They were only made in 1971 & only 400 were built. My husband sold his before he realised how rare they. His brother owns a Fastback Long Range that is exactly the same as my husband's original bike. My husband says the Fastback is the best looking Commando & could never understand why Norton dropped the Fastback yet kept the silly looking Hi Rider in the range.

I agree with you and your husband. That fastback is amazing. Love it! Wahoo!

I like the styling of the early Commandos, the cool factor is undeniable! I also like how Norton Commandos are one of the most rapidly appreciating of all vintage bikes! Still room for improvement with my '73 750 Combat, but i like getting things sorted out one thing at a time.

Love the fastback style too. Did ride a 72 Norton Combat and, like the fastback, was blown away with the performance, handling and sound. I can see why these bike are aggressively appreciating. Wonderful machines. Wahoo!

I have this bike in red with round Norton Villiers badges on the tank and tail piece. It was originally British Racing Green but was repainted in the past. The look of these bikes can be polarizing, but having one, they definitely grow on you. They look a bit like hot rods.

Beautiful Fuzzy! That January auction will be here in town. I wonder how it works as far as purchasing. Are they consignment? I see that tag for 18,500.00. Is that what they have to get at auction? Anyone know? Mirror's...do they come stock with no mirror's? Could not imagine riding without mirrors. I like the way the seat front wraps around the tank.

I'm not sure how any of this works. Never been to a bike auction...maybe I need to go to this one. Wahoo!

I like the other one better the 750 Combat Commando in Black & Gold but the 850 Interstate is the one & Mk3 is the Creme de la Creme model. Wahoo.

Quaif made a 5speed for British bikes back then.

I'm thinking they have an 850 Interstate on the floor. I'll look. Wahoo!

That's the first time I saw a combat decal! I'll have to get one for my '73 750 Roadster with a combat mill. They were the fastest of all the Commandos, made for only about a year in '72 and '73 between certain serial #'s, and were a warranty disaster as originally built. You can easily tell an authentic combat engine with several visible clues. This is my 3rd Commando. My first one I bought new in '73 did not have a combat sticker on it.

Norton are better yhan BSA, Triumph especially when they almagamated Norton got all the best tooling which meant better sealing.Norton's are commanding high prices now in last 15yrs & a 850 Commando's are worth the most especially the mk3 Interstate 27-30k nz dollars as a Trident 🔱 750 is about 20k NZ 🇳🇿 but for great condition bikes.I know guys who owned them & sold them about 15-20yrs ago & regret now cause prices go e right up for Norton's especially Commando's.

I have owned a Z1A & Z1B also a 750 Commando 1972 model the Norton was much nicer especially on the sweepers and backroads the Kawasaki was limited not by power but poor handling and a loose chassis. I'll take a sorted Commando any day over the Kawasaki.
