From what I understand, club never makes any money on these auctions. They always loose or break even, but still make this auctions happen twice a year. It is more like present to their members, and a way to get rare and hard to find fish to Chicagoland. Think about the amount of work and time they put in to this......way to go GCCA. Nice video, thanks for sharing.

That's good to know! The Greater Seattle Aquarium Society has a small auction at the end of each meeting. I'm hoping to make my first one in September. But once a year they have a much larger auction and a plant sale. Can't wait for those...but that sucks if the club isn't making money :/

Clubs I've been a part of in past have auctions twice a year and they make enough money to help fund club activities and pay to have speakers come to meeting etc.

Kasia, great video! Thank you, this was so fun to watch after the whole weekend of getting ready for and doing the auction - I love that you got Jason announcing, Rick B auctioning (auctioneering?), Trevor and others bagging, and your sequence of catching those Apisto agassizii flame red was great - sorry for all those endlers being in there, thanks for your help and great videos, makes it even more fun!

*LMAO* over "Of course I got endlers...of course." When I got my first 5 endler, I got a bonus fry. Now, everytime I transfer the freshly sexed fry between tanks, at LEAST one of their younger siblings tag along :P And I use small nets! Most of the time, I just have net just under the water surface and just watch until the one I want comes over to investigate, then raise the edge of the net above water, et voilà! The tough part is letting all the OTHER ones out until I just have the one I wanted to catch!

I always struggle with catching the fish I want by catching a bunch of guppies or endlers.. the struggle is real

Super cool! My husband needs to join. He has 2 tanks of cichilds and he is always looking at others when he goes into a store in even an aquarium. He finds them there too... lol

Its really nice to find likeminded people with the same passiona and hobbies. I used to be too shy to approach people so I started out alone in the hobby for a while.. joining a club has really helped me make fish-friends.

Could you do a video with your motion stabilizer off? The whole frame moves around even with a slight turn of your head, and you turn your head a lot. It almost gives me motion sickness. I don't mean to sound rude, but it would be nice if you could just do one video without It, or mess with the settings a little bit. Love your videos otherwise.

Hello, I was just chatting with Rick Borstein & he mentioned to look you up! Awesome seeing other fish keepers from anywhere near Chicago. I have been going to the GCCA swaps for a little while but my passion lies with the Chicago Livebearer Society. Any chance you might get some goodeids in your fish room? Visit me if you're interested!

I have a question for anyone who knows: I did a water change today and my Betta who I've had for 8 days was building a bubble nest. He is aggressive towards me now and I don't know what to do.
@JA-ux1rz6 жыл бұрын
Bettas are usually sassy with their owners, it's endearing. Don't worry about it, I mess up my Betta's bubble nests all the time as I'm not planning on breeding him... yet. Don't forget water conditioner and making sure the new water is at the same temperature when changing! :)

Yeah, it always makes me sad to destroy a bubble nest, but they always make another! In my opinion, one of the best things about bettas is their personalities & how interactive they are! In my experience, they tend to be a bit more sassy after a water change.
