Excellent footage. Really interesting to see the relationship between what is happening under water and the effect on the float. A lot has happened by the time the float really starts moving!

Great vid as others have said. And yes he is using the correct float, it's a drift beater, The thin stem is less prone to the faster flowing surface water pushing against it, and the bulbous tip prevents it from pulling under, and lastly with a shot laying on the bed to anchor the float. One thing I did notice was he could have hit the lift bites immediately, as you then know a fish has lifted your short distance from hook anchor shot. It could be that he knew it was quite short from the hook due to the very shallow water and wanted to make sure he wasn't striking to soon, but as he must have noticed himself on editing, that in fact he could have...Thanks for the great upload.

I had been watching this video, and I noticed one thing that your hand up was too slow, I mean, when the float-stick going up,that means the fish was get hooked,your hand must put up quickly,no need to wait the float-stick going down. I hope you understand what I mean. anyway, this is a great video.sorry for my rudeness

Excellemt filming. But as others have said not very good shotting. What you could have done, which would have been really useful and instructional, would have been to try different shotting methods : lift method, shirtbutton, varying the telltale shot in position and size etc. Perhaps next time...

@douglas9743
@douglas9743 4 жыл бұрын
 @Thomas Slusser It may still work but it's far from optimal. I'd have to agree with what the others are saying in that a correctly shotted float would give a far better bite indication. The footage shows in numerous places the fish sucking hook bait up into their mouths -- there is movement on the float but clearly not enough to warrant a strike from the angler, but striking far earlier than he did would have hooked the fish and potentially prevented a deeply hooked fish (admittedly no fish were deeply hooked fish here). If the float was shotted so that only the orange bob at the top of the float was protruding from the water, then a fish picking the bait up from the bottom and then rising through the column would register as a lift of the bob so that the thinner section of float directly below now also protrudes, and this is definite sign that the angler should strike. The method can be very effective and, if I am not mistaken, I think such floats are designed to be used in conjunction with it; if you were not already aware it is known as the 'lift method' and there are a number of good quality videos on KZbin regarding it.

Your fishing far to heavy and crude,your mainline looks like rope ,you are also scaring the fish in the swim dredging them up to the surface of the swim,lower the rod tip and bring the fish sideways out of the swim your fishing, before bringing it to the surface .You only need 3lbs mainline,2lb hook length a size 18 to 14 max hook length , a finer float and much smaller shot sizing you only need 1or 2 dust shot 6 ins from the hook ,"your not fishing for Tarpon" .Fishing like I say, you'll find you will double or treble your catch,also you should introduce small amounts of loose feed at regular intervals this also helps to get them competing for the food on offer.
