Rare Footage Alert - Silverback Oumbi & Shufai's Interaction

Something we don't see every day! Silverback Oumbi interacting with his son Shufai.
Well, I actually have never seen Oumbi this much involved with his kids at any one time.
Shufai has been a bit of a pain to Grandma Biddy lately as you saw in the last video
• Gorilla Grandma Biddy ... and it's nice to see Oumbi taking some of Shufai's energy away from her so Grandma Biddy gets a rest.
I just love the face Oumbi makes when Shufai comes in from the back and pushes him. Shufai doesn't give up and comes back for more and more to annoy the silverback.
Shufai lies down to the ground on his back and tickling the silverbacks toes. Oumbi pulls his foot away. Shufai gets up, swings around and than he lies back down. Asante watching in the background.
In the the next clip Oumbi is lying on his back, so is Shufai, as they arm wrestle. Shufai spins around on his back. There is some eye poking ( not sure if Shufai is trying to remove a bit of wood wool from his dad's eye), biting wrestling going on. It's write at the back and the viewing area is packed so I'm unable to move to a better spot.
When they both get up, they move even further to the back. Shufai pinching his dad's bum when he sits down. They go into the off vie area. A minute later Grandma Biddy is looking around as Oumbi charges back into the room with his son following. Shufai doesn't give up. Oumbi seems quite out of breath when you look over Shufai's shoulder. Understandably, I never seen him play, or move this much before. So a well deserved rest later on in the afternoon for the Silverback was well deserved.

Oumbi is the coolest looking silverback that I have ever seen. I watch these gorilla videos pretty often, but Oumbi just has a unique look with his massive skull and face.

Well would you looky here....This is wild. I don't EVER remember our grumpy papa bear playing w/ either one of the boys like this. Especially not lying down. Lope has egged him on plenty of times. But there was always a little fear there. I guess it's true, the babies get away w/ everything.

It is quite amazing seeing him like that.. There were some little bits of arm wrestling before that lasted seconds, but that was about it. I never seen him like this before either.

"stern" and "irritable" are normal Silverback traits; they have to keep the family in line AND protected.

@@williamsmith666 Oh, I perfectly understand that. But like people, gorillas have personalities...Oumbi and D'jeeco, for instance, have their own ways of maintaining troop discipline. Shabani and Haoko as well, despite being brothers, are markedly different.

I love the open happy mouths as they play. This is how I can tell gorillas are happy! Those are their smiles. I love to see Oumbi and Shufai playing. I was so worried about Shufai with Lope gone it’s nice Oumbi is filling some of that gap. Looks pretty happy about it too! A new side to alpha Papa Oumbi. Will wonders never cease! 🥰🦍♥️

Oh my this made me cry but happy tears because it was so sweet! Oumbi actually looks like he is laughing and enjoying the interaction with his son. I completely believe that Oumbi decided to go ahead and play with him to keep him from bothering Grandma Biddy and even surprised himself that he was enjoying himself. Animals are so much smarter than people give them credit for. This really made me happy. To be honest I never see,Oumbi play with Lope not Shufai. That's why Lope was out of control most of the time. No Daddy playing rough up time . 😢 Glad to see Oumbi finally giving his son some Daddy attention.

Because that zoo doesn't really seem to care as much about the wellbeing of their gorillans, I wonder if they don't know where to put Gentaro to, I think he should have left long ago. Though I haven't been able to watch that family in long time because I don't like that zoo and how they seem to treat their animals so I hope he's doing well even if he still lives with his parents.
