RARE Fun Time Pizza Commercial featuring the Rock-afire Explosion - McAllen TX - 1990’s

I remember seeing this commercial on TV as a kid. We begged mom and dad to take us, but it was about 45 minutes away in McAllen. One day they took us, and I remember being a little bit unimpressed. This commercial made them look so much more interesting than they really were. Great to see it again after all this time! Only as an adult do I recognize the song. This would have been my first exposure to it. Great find!

We used to hang around "fun time pizza" 24-7 that was our hang out... I even met my wife there. We were from the neighborhood across the express way "la Paloma" those were the times we knew all the workers from there some of them used to dress as Billy Bob and walk around the pizza place .. some of my friends worked there Eddie Jimenez, Julio Melendez, it was at main place plaza

@@ShowbizPizzaPlaceAnimatronics From what I can remember....I was told the animatronics were acquired through an auction. There was another location across town, even bigger. But eventually both places closed. The place shown in the commercial reopened again. Only they got rid of the Rock-afire explosion animatronics. Instead they got the animatronics from the Chuck E. Cheese that used to be down 10th street, same town. Again I was told it was through an auction. they renamed the band, and redressed them. they were all dressed as beach goers. Surfers, etc. There was also a smaller room right before you got to the smaller theater area. It had a few table video games, some tables and chairs and the former Elvis Lion animatronic playing in there. you can see the king in this commercial. they redressed him in Hawaiian type clothes. Instead of Elvis songs, he was playing Beach Boys music. this version of Fun Time Pizza didn't last long.

When I first saw these animatronics I knew I had seen the somewhere else. Later I realized they came straight from Showbiz pizza. I was told FTP got them from an auction, along with the costume and used them as their own mascots and didn't even bother renaming them. when FTP re-opened again, for a short period of time, they came back with the old Chuck E. Cheese band instead. also heard they were grabbed at an auction. they were renamed and redressed and mostly played beach songs. the Elvis lion was brought back but also changed up. it now wore Hawaiian shirts and sang beach boys songs.

Yes. it was said showbiz auctioned off their animatronics and FTP bought. they also grabbed an animatronic of the king. they didn't bother changing the names, just kept them that way. the placed closed down for years and then reopened again. once more it was said they bought more animatronics, but this time they were the entire Chuck e cheese band. only this time they changed the name of the band, the character names and they brought back the king. but changed him too. they were all dressed in beach clothing. the king now sang Beach boys songs.

No one knows where those animatronics went to. But the place did reopen many years later...for a very short while. Baldiisagoodperson There was two; Billy Bob’s Pizza Circus and Skating in Conyers, and Okefenokee Swamp Park in Waycross. Both shows are now in the hands of a collector named Connor, however the Pizza Circus animatronics themselves were trashed.

Let's put it like this. Someone here in the Rio Grande Valley wanted to make a pizza place for kids. So they went out of their way to make it as kid friendly as possible by acquiring as many things they could get to make a pizza place fun. A place for kids to have a fun time. they supposedly found out about an auction where showbiz pizza animatronics were going up for sale. so they went with all they had and got them for a good price. along with that they also grabbed the King and that costume. so they found the spot for the pizza place and set everything up. they didn't bother changing the names. they also brought along all costumes of characters kids would possibly know. don't know why Pink panther is there though. but they wanted to have characters running around and were lucky to have that Billy Bob costume they also had an arcade filled with a ton of great games. over the years those game got stale, just like the pizza. they probably weren't making as much money as they wanted. from what I heard they weren't even rotating the games anymore. they just had the same old games all the time. so they eventually closed down. Many years later they decided to try again. they supposedly went to an auction again and this time came back with all the Chuck E cheese animatronics. so opened at the same location and put in all the new tronics and brought back the king which they still had in their possession. but for some reason, this time they renamed all the characters and the band. they redressed all the characters too. this time with a beach party theme and the king lion was now wearing a Hawaiian shirt and singing beach boys songs. the pizza was still bad. eventually the place closed down within months.
