Tell Master Sakamoto I said she did a wonderful job. I love chess and lots of variants, and shogi is one of my favorites.

I thank you on behalf of the Master! Shogi is certainly one of my favorites as well.

Yes, great set. True, a hand written box cover would be a nice touch. Still, great set, entirely brushed by hand. I know, costs more than a factory made set!

Really? You will probably never see a single hand-made set outside of Japan, though you will see many shogi sets. Are you acquainted with Tendo city, the traditional place of shogi artists? This is what my correspondent tells me regarding this traditonal craft: 'There are not many "piece-writing craftsmen" left in Tendo-city of Japan. Now that the very famous Master Tarou Itoh has almost retired, there are very few. Sakamoto is one of them.'

Sorry, I misunderstood your question. These pieces are item 251172333264 on eBay, now on sale for $193.50 (US Dollars). I have six of them.

stunning set and packaging, the only thing that kinda bugs me is the cheap looking gold sticker on the front. would have been perfect if the symbols were written with the same ink as the pieces, otherwhise its a beautiful shogi set. can't afford it though lol :)

Incredible.

Oo, sorry about that, I was just curious how much it costed because I saw a set when I visited Japan in 2010.

This pieces made wood??
@AncientChess7 жыл бұрын
Yes, wood indeed. Almost all shogi pieces are made of wood, though some small portable, or 'tournament style' pieces are made of plastic.
@trololopeth6 жыл бұрын
Traditionally, is there any particular type of wood which is most common?
@gabriellecrawford98564 жыл бұрын
So I guess you can say it's a PIECE OF WOOD. LOL
@hanzimaster11 жыл бұрын
This is not rare; most pieces in Japan are hand-made.
