This technique Meat lining arguably was invented here in area 11 and still to this day you will see a couple dozen boats using this technique
From top to bottom of the water column the currents are pushing in many different directions. This makes Downriggers tricky to use here.
Meat lining is definitely king here in area 11.
You could call this Technique dropper fishing on a bigger scale

So goofy but yes so affective. I’m sore after cranking these setups. Nobody I know has spent as much time on the water as Boots. Crazy how much he knows about the southern Puget Sound

Ok watched through this again. We need some tech specs. His setup is not how my dad described their setups. I really want to put mine in the water but am a little lost. What kind of main line on the rods? How much weight? Did he have a snubber on? Did he clip the weight on after putting down the leader? How much weight? Does he ever use a flasher on those rods? What kind of leader setup is he running? Did you use the herring on one of the rods?

So awesome to see it in action! I have one of my grandpas meat lines it and my dads rigs both use the largest pflueger sal trout with downrigger cables. My grandpa has the handles moves out with a large brass extension to give more leverage. The rods both use a couple of pulleys as the guides. I have never used it though. Need one of those beefy rod holders. Can you ask Boots where he got those rod holders. Seen some other ones like that around the point. Thanks for another great video.

How cool is that. Boots made these rod holders 20-3O years ago. They are in rough shape but they still work. I think the only option these days is to make them. Next time I’m out with him I will do a close up of the rod holders.

There does not appear to be any advantage over a downrigger with this set up. It is still a large amount of lead on a line to bring it down deep, only you don't have the release to disconnect it when the fish strikes. You also lose the ability to run really heavy weights since you have to hand crank it back up.

Would like to see how those pulleys are mounted on the rods. Been trying to rebuild a meatline and that part is the big hangup at the moment.

The rods boots has are from back in the day. They are full fiberglass and very old
