Stan is a Bishop Auckland lad. The house he lived in was on Princess Street, which has the blue plaque on the front door. Even his old school at Queens Way Bishop Auckland is still there, and it's just been renovated. The cinema his father managed is still there, and it's a museum now. And his statue stands on the corner of Newgate Street.

I knew Lois Laurel Brooks and her husband Rand Brooks. Rand Brooks opened and built up Professional Ambulance in Glendale in the 1960s. While working on the ambulance in the West Hollywood/Beverly Hills area in the 70s, I responded to Lois Laurel's mother's cottage in Beverly Hills when her oxygen system quit working. Rand Brooks was a good guy who also played in the movie Gone With The Wind and also starred in the 1950s series Rin Tin Tin. I believe they had a son who we called Randy but I believe he was Rand Jr. If I remember right, Rand and Lois divorced in the early to mid 70s... Trivia I know but when I met Lois once at the Professional Ambulance office, you could see she was Stan Laurel's daughter. I knew Rand better but they were both good people in my opinion.

My favorite part of the interview was when Lois recalled how she was afraid of Oliver Hardy because she truly believed that he was really hurting her father. I love Laurel and Hardy. I will always have a soft spot for them in my heart. Not only because I enjoyed their movies, but I always think of my dad. He watched them with his dad when he was a kid. Just like how he introduced me to their films when I was a kid. I just watched the movie, Stan and Ollie. If it's true, then Stan especially was done a disservice. He wrote all of the scripts, produced them, and acted. It seems so unfair that he and Ollie or "Babe" didn't get paid for syndication. Maybe those were the days before actors received royalties for syndication. Still, what talented men they were. Ollie had such a beautiful voice and Stanley was such a comedic genius. I will always love them. 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

...I also can't believe that Stan Laurel was listed in the phone book. He was so kind and down to earth that he would invite his fans up for a cup of tea. I wish that I had been alive back then. I have never met anyone that doesn't like Laurel and Hardy. As a kid I loved watching them as often as possible. My brothers and I would have a contest to see who could imitate Stan Laurel when he cried and pulled his hair up, etc.. It was always a lot of fun. Babes in Toyland used to be played every Thanksgiving and Christmas but it seems the last couple of years it's been hard to find, if it could be found on tv at all. We will never have any traditions in the US, the media and those controlling programming keep changing everything instead of giving us all something to share and enjoy in common.
@rick123734 жыл бұрын
You can pretty much find all of their stuff on KZbin now, not sure if you knew that. I imported the 20 DVD box set from the UK 15 years ago only to find that they ended up releasing it in the US anyway a few years later. I have since converted the DVDs to computer video files and have also searched the internet to fill in anything else that is missing from that. I think I now have everything they did together that is still know to exist on my computer. Nice!
