Stan Laurel was asked to appear in 'It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World' in 1962 but politely refused. He'd said he would never appear without Ollie after Mr. Hardy's death, and stayed true to his word. What a gentleman, what a giant talent they both were. Thank you for this.

This really touched me. As a sixth grader I mailed Stan a letter letting him know how much I enjoyed watching their movies. He sent back a postcard with his photo. He signed it: "Thanks Anthony. Good Luck Always. Stan Laurel." He died a few weeks later.

@MrQlevert Nope, you're wrong. But I think you know that already, you're clearly someone who spends their life trolling. FYI, Stan was famously a genuinely nice guy who always had time for his fans and was gracious to them all. He was even listed in his local telephone directory, and would chat to anyone who rang him. So take your crappy attitude elsewhere, there's nothing for you here.

Stan Laurel outlived Oliver by 8 years and was crushed by his death in 1957 and swore never to preform without him again. Despite numerous offers he never did. He was also unique in the fact he usually answered all his fan mail, kept a listed phone number and would let fans in his house for brief visits unannounced.

Even though I enjoyed watching this you can tell what poor health Mr. Hardy is in.. Even had I not known the year of his passing I would know by watching this he was not going to live much longer. Which has nothing to do with his weight. These two were brilliant comedians. My daughter and I watched the movie Stan & Ollie last week. At the end I said how great they were and even when I was in elementary in the 80s they would still show us their movies.. She is 15, looked at me and said "wait! That was based on a true story?" I guess I never realized someone had never heard of Laurel and Hardy.

Yes indeed, they were special. Those were different times. People had ambitions and had different values. Nowadays most people are driven by greed in the form of money, posessions or status. When I was about 18 I lived in a big house for a year with seven other friends, we used to have big party's with loads staying over. Laurel and Hardy repeats used to be on free to air TV on a Sunday morning, and one by one whoever was in the house used to make their way downstairs and curl up somewhere under a blanket to watch it. The hangovers seemed to melt away for an hour while we were all pissing ourselves laughing watching these two clowning around. Great memories of two of the finest comedians to have ever lived.

Laural and Hardy are the most important components in the history of world comic genius. Period. And the thing that makes it all that more notable is that 100% of their performances and gags are family friendly and free of all smut. They didn't have to be provocative and crude to be funny. And they are just as entertaining today, 90 years on, as they were back then. Legendary

How right you are ... Watching these guys as a kid was fun - I often wondered, in my simple kid brain, how it was their friendship never wavered. Amidst all of the trouble they would find themselves, they always hung in there. I believe I learned what true friendship is by watching these two - not getting offended, took in all stride, and shook it off no matter what the problems were. What's even most remarkable, even when women came into their lives to really complicate things, they always stayed true to their friendship.! I doubt we will ever see a Laurel & Hardy team again, at least in my lifetime anyway. Peace.

I get what you are saying, but this was live TV at the time, and the timing of the commercial breaks within the program was everything. It was just the way it worked back then unfortunately. Just appreciate the remaining footage that we have of these wonderful gentlemen. Every minute we can find is precious.

Imagine thrilling, entertaining television that was uplifting, positive and perfectly clean and inoffensive! That spirit is sorely lacking these days because our so called 'entertainment' only adds to our stresses. It's a terrible shame that we can't see the direction we are heading in. And they were both such true gentlemen, what an impression they made here!!! The other striking observation I made watching this was how the host, Ralph Edwards was so carefully aware of Hardy's health and repeatedly reminded him to feel at ease to be seated. As a person with a disability, I find it very touching that he was able to prioritize his guest's health and comfort all through the program.

I have watched L&H movies and comedy shorts since childhood. I still do to this day, and it NEVER gets old. Same thing with the Our Gang/Little Rascals shorts, since both were produced by the Hal Roach Studios. But Stan and Ollie made slapstick comedy enjoyable for all the world to see and love. That's why they are all-time greats, along with Chaplin, Keaton, Lloyd, and numerous other geniuses who made audiences laugh. They will never be replaced, sad to say. Thank you for the TIYL episode of December 1, 1954 featuring Laurel and Hardy.

I feel quite emotional watching this episode of This is Your Life. When most of us go to our graves, not having amounted to much, and certainly leaving no lasting legacy. Here are two men, whose names will go down in history, and as long as there's motion pictures and a Holywood The names of Stan & Ollie will be remembered for giving so much pleasure to young and old.

As a child, I remember waking and then telling my dad that Laurel and Hardy said goodnight to me last night..... Only to be devestated that it wasn't real... Even tho I tried my best to make him believe me. 45yrs later, still find them hilarious and yes, still wish they'd really said goodnight... Although they'd probably just keep saying goodbye. Comedy genius, never to be repeated
