I just love this open-minded trio… Joel, Mark and Sonny… Their excitement and their enthusiasm to learn about new cultures and to journey into new culinary adventures are simply contagious. What a beautiful legacy that Andrew Zimmern and Anthony Bourdain have started and have left behind… “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” Mark Twain

I once told someone that we eat puffer fish in the Caribbean and that our cooks don't need any special certificate or training to cook them, and I've never heard of anyone dying from puffer fish poisoning in the Caribbean. The person is a very well-read and well-travelled individual. He said it's probably some other type of fish in the same family as puffer fish that is not poisonous.

As a Florida lifetime resident the state is pushing the catching and consumption of the Lionfish. It helps a lot that they are DELICIOUS. Spear fishing is probably the best way to get them. Oh and they are working on training wild grouper to eat them and having a good deal of success.

That lion fish looked incredible! 🇯🇲
@nahor882 жыл бұрын
I really wanna try it. Sonny was bringing up a good point though. The lion fish CANNOT be marketed as a fish for regular consumption to the US populace. Once that happens, yes, the lionfish destroying the reef will die, but demand won't suddenly die once the problem is addressed. Long term, it could create worse problems. Florida has a similar problem with Burmese pythons, though that carries an additional problem in that pythons have a high mercury content so eating a lot of them is dangerous. The exotic pet industry honestly just needs to be shut down. Too many irresponsible clowns out there (*cough* tiger king).
@marcuslarwa90982 жыл бұрын
@@nahor88 I agree that the exotic pet industry has its problems but it isn’t just people releasing their pets into the ecosystem. Hurricanes also cause issue and release a lot of these animals. There can be a market for lion fish if you create a season and a bag limit but from what I understand they are destroying the reefs so it’s probably better to just allow people to kill as many as possible and if they eliminate them then that would be a good thing.

Foods that I would often refuse to even try before. We are so used to buying our meat, fish as cut or prepared. Creating so much waste of the animal. I am the only one in my house, who actually still eats liver and kidney. Edited to say I did watch a documentary on 'Lion Fish'. This is because we are overfishing, the bigger predators in the ocean!
