Many of the very first coins minted at the Hull mint were just silver planchets simply stamped N.E. in small letters. Only later did they have a design other the simple N.E . stamp.

Doesn’t look quite the same as the known example. The III looks like pillars on the one in the Massachusetts historical Society and bulge like Doric columns. These don’t do that. The N looks scrawny and the serifs aren’t as rounded. Did the dye get changed over time?
