Yeah, Mark Greadtbatch was such a fast runner and such a fantastic opener. Nz needs one like him now. Also, Martin Crowe (RIP) was a great captain and a superb Batsman. Substitute of Martin Crowe is Kane Williamson @ the moment. But Martin Crowe was a great player.

Greatest worldcup. Nowdays, its just a batsman game. These matches make me nostalgic. I was in class 6 and I remember getting up at 3 30 AM to see IND vs NL/ WI matches.

I longed all my life for one such moment to make my parents proud and I did that when I topped my Masters of Engg and secured a Gold Medal. . The way Greatbatch hit that SIX on frontfoot off Malcolm Marshall @22.10, coming out of the crease literally had Marshall shell shocked. . He lost himself for a moment, standing there shell shocked. Soon he realized his time was up and retired. . Later he died out of severe heartbreak due to this incident. 😢😢😢

200 seemed to be the ideal average score in 92 WC i suppose. pitch sure was tough, players had to give their best. not easy tracks, small grounds like india or other venues. big lush grounds, lot of running, sliding, diving, nice bounce for the pace bowlers. beautiful .

Though being a die hard fan of the first pinch hitter K Srikkant, I must whole heartedly admit that the kind of terror created by Mark Greatbatch in 1992 & Sanath Jayasuriya in 1996 still brings shivers in deep sleep. . Sachin Tendulkar was not even 50% during that time in comparison to what they did, going after almost every ball with unorthodox shots thus shellshocking the opposition. 😢😢😢

I rewatch this almost 30 years later and have to smile at so many things - and number one on the list is Mark Greatbatch the OG "pinch hitter" - except he was actually pretty average as an actual technical batsman and the "pinch hitting" wasn't really that "pinch". Case in point this innings were you would think from commentary he whacked a 50 off 25 balls - he ended up with 63 from 77. Hey - as a kiwi I LOVED all these guys including Greatbatch (who played for the province I grew up in - Central Districts) but have to keep it in perspective. I guess perception is reality huh!

'Dibbly dobbly' bowlers as the slow-medium nz bowlers used to be referred to as, lol. NZ was reliant on slow to medium pacers for quite a while. Chris Harris played for a long time after this - last ODI was 2004.

Greatbatch was plumb leg before by Marshall. But bad umpiring saved him. Home condition n bad umpiring made him stand out in 1992 WC. In semi final against Pakistan, slower delivery by Aquib Javed fooled him n bowled him. An average player.

From Richie Richardson becomes wi captain that is when the team started to detorating, because he strongly believe that his islands guys were very good players. That is when the team becomes a beaten sticks, the batting was very weak also the bowling. The team could not get out of 1st rounds with all the team Richie Richardson selected,because the team was just a mediocre. Away from Lloyd team no other captain has ever won a world cup for the wi team, they are just making up numbers.From 1983 the wi team reached the last final by Lloyd team and,was badly beaten by India by 40runs.People was saying that the wi team sold out the team, which I don't believes at all. I strongly believe that India really out played them, because I watched the game. New Zealand is one of the hardest team to beat,those short pitches balls that the wi bowlers was bowling. They cannot bowled nobody at all, because these younger generation liked to hooks. Richie Richardson packed up the wi team with too much mideocre guys from his islands, because they are no good players. Until the wi team selectors stop those kinds of practices,if a team like Leewards islands strongly believe that them alone can form the wi team. Why they don't just applied to the ICC for their test status, and O.D.I that is what killing off the games over the years.

From Richie Richardson becomes captain the team further fall into, a sliding position. Because he is packing the team with his 👋 mideocre players, most of the time there is not Jamaican in the team with so many players. How could you have a country with the most population, and cannot make a mideocre team as the wi team. But you have people is saying that Jamaica 🇯🇲 should support the wi team, if no Jamaican players cannot make the team. It does not make any sense that you associated with the team at all, because it is totally unacceptable. I know that there are a lot of islands 🏝 does not like the way I talk, but is their damn business. Who like what am saying or not, I owes none of them any form of obligation at all. Because if you are in an organization and your players them, is not welcome in it. Because of bias essbiasness, why would want to support them for. If they can do without any Jamaican players, why Jamaica 🇯🇲 don't set up their own organization just like Ireland, Scotland, even, Zimbabwe, also even Canada 🇨🇦, that played in the world cup 🥤. You want to tell that the JCB is so stupid, because that is not doing no good for the country players them.
