Irish Guards’ band.....THE very best......with my granddad’s Grenadier Guard’s band from the early1900s coming a very close second.. granddad was a boy soldier, having joined at the age of 14 years. He signed on for 12 years, learning to play drum and fife during that time. He was stationed at Victoria Barracks: met granny and they married. They lived in Duke Street, Windsor, and produced six boys and two girls.....my dad was one of those boys. Great and fond memories of Windsor and realising now how much a great part of Windsorians’ lives have been affected by so many of the soldiers stationed in both barracks, Combermere and Victoria. Many thanks to the supplier of this great video.

Briliant WS ! The band is Irish Guards and the New Guard is from the Army Air Corps. The "running woman" is ordered to protect the Colours during the march through the streets. She and he form as from that moment the "Escort for the Colour".

The two soldiers are the escort to the color, which is mounted every time they are marching to and from guard mount. At about 1:20 you can hear a command that sounds like "Escort Out." Then the two guards run to take their place next to the officer with the sword. The sword represents, I think, the regimental colors, so the two are gurading the colors while marching. When they get to Windsor, the command is given "Escort In," and the to escorts return to their original places. Ditto on return

As far as I know, the DoM only marches behind the Drum Major in other bands, not in the bands of the foot guards. Unless it's a special occasion, even than it rarely happens. To answer a few questions raised below, the first march is National Emblem, and the march at 3.30. is Great Little Army, I think. Military Bands can march without a Drum Major leading them, but he's there for a number of reasons, such as directing them where they go and bringing them to the halt when required by giving signals, plus giving the signal with the Drum Major's "staff" (it's called a "staff", not a "mace") when to finish one piece of music (it's called a "March", and not a "song" or "tune" as someone on here described it) ...... SuperNutkin
@enzofabrizi51288 жыл бұрын
The route would have been discussed before the parade (probably even if the D Maj was leading). The musical direction (starting a march, ending a march) would come from signals given by the D Maj, observed by the Bass Drummer and then the Bass Drummer would give specific bass drum signals at the appropriate time for the band to start or stop in unison. I wonder why there was no Drum Major leading? GREAT sound and superb drill!

Apologies for my ignorance but I'm another that's curious :- What's with the riflemen changing between the front and rear ranks? I'm assuming there's a reason but I've no idea what it would be.
@steveellis90654 жыл бұрын
Sn0wc4t The Drum Major May have been on operational duties as he and the band members are all front line soldiers or medics. With the corporals they start in the ranks, then as leaving the barracks or Royal residence the RSM will shout “out the escort” ordering them to run forward. The Captain of the guard (or in the case of Buckingham Palace, the Regimental Colour) only need protection between the Barracks and the royal residences, so on arrival at one of the following the RSM shouts “in the escort” and the Corporals return to the ranks.

I have a question for those knowing British military parade and guard rules. In some KZbin videos I have seen soldiers running from the rear to the front of the guard column when leaving the barrack grounds. At first I thought it was about soldiers being late out of their dorms and trying to catch up. In this video the incident starts at 1.23. A female soldier is very visible on the near side, but a male soldier does the same move one the far side of the column.

It's to mount the "Escort" they march infront or a few paces infront of the officer that's leading the troops the officer gives the command to "mount the Escort" they always do it when leaving barracks/castles/palaces when on arrival the escorting troops break off and stand to the side or break off and regroup to March back in
