@@GreenCocanix Utmost Respect for your granddad. (My late grandfather was in The Netherlands, in April 1945, with the "newly formed" Belgian army" (Brigade Piron"). One thing he told now and then was how their Lt. during a recon patrol at night stepped on a tripwire, which bathed them in lights. He always said, If the Germans had been waiting, he probably would have been killed... and then my father never would have been born, and neither would I... Something like this makes you think...)

As an American, it's so interesting to see how this type of military demonstration goes on and in the background you have people just going about their day. It's cool that it's so much a part of the culture that it's just normal.

There is something in the pipes that stirs the soul! I can not get enough of bagpipe music. If it doesn't stir the soul it, raises the hackles like it is supposed to for the enemies as the ladies from hades lead the troops in. I feel energized listening to it!

The opening tune is "Fàinne Geal an Lae" (The Dawning of the Day). A great marching tune. In Ireland the Bagpipes are called 'Píobaì Choghaidh' (War Pipes) in Irish. The 'sit-down' pipes with the bellows are complicated indoor instruments called 'Píobaì Uillinn' (Elbow Pipes). They played the 'Minstrel Boy' about half war around. The words are by Thomas Moore (Victorian Era) but the melody is a very ancient Irish marching tune. Moore saved a great number of our ancient tunes by giving them a new life.

I know they've been several times since but the best occasion was about 2010 or 2011? they walked down the newtownards rd in East Belfast. their was a good "4 fig number" out to see them. it's always a pleasure to see them in belfast especially for bandsmen like myself

And what were they before this romantic notion of Britishness was invented?? because politically the British identity is a bit of a misnoma, it doesnt actually mean anything, there are English guys down where I live who would beat the crap out of you for calling them British!! the one bar in my area wont allow the union flag inside the bar or outside the premises so what do you tell them?? the term British never really existed prior to the act of union and it was a term used to con every one on this island into thinking they were part of something bigger and better when the truth was far more elaborate! it was used to con hard working people into making the rich richer and thats the true simplicity of the con.. funny how some English guy can write some bollox on a piece of paper to make you all the same racially and like gullible idiots ye just accept it, go up to Glasgow on a Friday night and see how far ye get calling one of them a Brit, youll soon learn that it is a term of offence...

Kilyts are. Worn mostly for formal occasions. Scots with Tartans. Each clan had their own yaryan pattern and color. Irish didn't use tartan but colors. Your used to seeing the short formal kilt. 16th Century they were longer and outer layer could be brought up over head or wrapped around shoulders for warmth

The whole clan tartan thing was made up by two English writers in C19 th along with random patterns It’s mostly myth Made up to suit Victorian fashion tastes Along with the entirely made up language by the same two guys who cashed in on the trend . Rather like brave heart who was in fact a common cattle thief from Northumberland which for the culturally challenged is in England. I pass by his execution spot on a weekly basis on my bike. YOU said it fella, there not Irish at all!! love how the brits still try to steal everyone elses culture, 800 fecking years and ye just cant let go, its pathetic... ye had no culture till you took it from the Irish, Scots and Welsh...

@markkavanagh4457 6 жыл бұрын
And what was it before the British stole it?? why should we expect different ye have been stealing and usurping Celtic culture for years, whats funny here is how you classed it as British then said from Ulster in Northern Ireland and then said Ex Royal Irish Ranger!! if its Irish then its not British is it? as Ireland is not in Britain or Great Britain, ye can keep convincing yourselves that it is but it is not and never will be, go look up the act of union or the laws of geography according to British Ordnance survey.. youll be telling us next that China is part of the Congo!! its pathetic pal, your empire ended a long time ago get over it...

Its always great to have one of our ex colonial cousins still respect us but our history and therefore our traditions go back a lot longer than the 1700s my friend and it is THAT which defines who we are, our values, our way of life and why we have been able to give so much to the rest of the world. We are but a small Country but because of our long history if independence and freedom we always punch way above our perceived weight. And its men and women like these that deliver it.
