Kate discussed falling into the canal on the Dick Cavitt show... she prearranged with one of the house owners nearby that she could rush in and shower, etc. immediately after the scene to get the raw sewage off her- she washed everything but her eyes and an infection set in that plagued her the rest of her life....that misty , teary look she had in many scenes wasn't always great acting- though she used it to great effect.

I could never QUITE believe she was a secretary from Akron Ohio. I mean it is KATE! I cringe every time I see her fall into the canal. She had an eye infection she could never quite get rid of for most of the rest of her life from that.
