Sun Worship is as old as the Indus valley or even the early Harappan civilization in India. Ikshwaku is the name of son of the Sun God from which the family tree of Rama is believed to have sprung. The kshatriyas in this family tree are the Surya-wanshi (literally sun-clan). There are 2 more clans viz Chandra-wanshi and Agni-wanshi. Rajputs are distributed in all those clans. Rana Pratap of Mewad was of the Sisodiya clan which was Surya-wanshi.

Its a self-designated title...And Rajputs are not only from the hills of Aravalli(you referred mount abu)..It was a self designation of various clans that ruled northern India after the collapse of the Gupta Empire in around 550AD. There arose principally 4 clans viz. 1. Chuahans 2. Parmars. 3 Pratihars 4. Solanki These words have actual roots in the Sanskrit language explaining their lineage.. Well all I am trying to say is that if any group in India is closer to the central asians or the scythians it is the Punjabis.
