My teacher always says that the perfect harp is always the one with just one or two note smore that the one you have. So true. I have a Rebecca 30 and I I can't wait to jump on their website and see how close this one is to being available!

What do you think is minimum spacing for strings not to run into each other. I suppose it depends on the range or gauge of the strings. And playing overall. I do understand there are several variables into consideration. For instance, I suppose less lenght would mean wore gauge and tension to hit the note, therefore less vibration and strings would not run into each other so easily. But your thoughts on it considering the amounts of harps you own would be much appreciated.

Hello Molly! I've been watching your videos lately and I had become interested in the kalimba instrument which I have seen in a few of your other videos. I was wondering if you would like to answer a few questions for me to help in my research of the instrument? 1. Would you consider the Kalimba an entirely unique instrument, or are there other instruments that are similar in nature? 2. For you personally, what has learning to play the kalimba entailed? Are you self-taught, were you mentored.. Etc. 3. What is a mistake you see new kalimba players make/ what piece of advice would you give to someone aiming to learn the instrument?

Ooh, great questions! 1) the kalimba itself is kind of a Westernization of a group of African instruments; they are in the family called lamellophones. Some of these are the mbira, sanza, etc. There are many, many variations and tunings! 2) I personally self-taught myself the kalimba; it's relatively straightforward once you have a basic understanding of how to read tabs or sheet music, and how music is structured (ie chords). There are some interesting techniques unique to kalimba of which there are many demonstrations on youtube and other places! 3) If I were to give one piece of advice, it would be to get one nice, standard kalimba in the key of C with 17 tines. With that, you can learn many pieces from tabs. I think it's a great idea to branch into also trying to learn to read sheet music as that opens a lot of doors musically!

I noticed on your Rebecca harp video that it has taper/thru pins, and so does this prototype. However, my new Rebecca has zither pins instead. What's up with that? Any opinions about the difference?

I purchase a used Rebecca that had been re-sold to Stoney End. They mentioned to me that they were using zither pins on my lower notes to make the strings cross in the correct place. The zither pins are a bit longer I think. You probably already know this, but the idea is that when you lean the harp back, the point at which all the strings cross will create a straight line parallel to the floor.
