This series of interviews is very interesting. Thank you for taking the time to translate them in English, as there is some invaluable information we learn here about the psychology and motives of Nicolas Winding Refn. This is very deep! The only thing I found strange is the show itself, why the interviewers are being so harsh? Why do they record the interview on a vintage tape recorder (haha)? The show has a very sixties/early seventies vibe that I like a lot. The whole vibe is surreal! Thanks again for taking the time to share these episodes with us! It's appreciated! :)

Thank you for your comment. To give some background info on this show, I can tell you that it's created by Denmark's Radio, which is a public service TV and radio network. This program, as you can probably tell, is aimed towards "intellectuals" and has an arthouse vibe to it. Like you mentioned, it also has a very retro feel to it, with the studio design and old tape recorder. I suppose it's for aesthetic purposes. The show ran for two seasons. Personally, I think it's some of the greatest television ever made in Denmark. I can also tell you that they aired an interview with David Lynch, where they talked about Transcendental Meditation. Perhaps I'll upload it once I'm done adding subtitles to the NWR interviews.

As someone who watched Drive as a kid and was absolutely floored, and just recently got into Lars von Trier but think he's more provocative than deep, but still I'm a huge fan, this is amazing

ælfabet the one about Trier is it true? Trier is acting like a child in Refn’s anecdote. Is Trier like that?

Are both Lars and Refn homophobes or what? Besides someone doesn't have to be hetero to have (biological) children - for one there's surrogacy but he could also be bi- or pansexual or something else that among other attractions includes being open to sexual relations with women.

Ok.

I dont think anyone of them has anything against homosexuals, but there is often an underlying provocation in Danish culture, when someone ironically asks other men if they are "gay" or call them girly or that sort. It's sort of an "old white man" thing, but it is still, and despite the youth movements best fights, a very common provocation to question someones sexuality.
