Found this old Schwinn in a barn and was given to me. Broken frame and bent parts fixed. Sandblasted wheels, Rat rod bike.

Yea the corvette is a nice model, theyre really comfortable to ride one and the 3 speed is a better option than the single speed, you can kick it into high gear for a bit quicker speed or low gear for up hills. @diydarkmatter2 жыл бұрын
@Oregon Patriot i get that original tires on a show bike or a wall hanger so to speak is important or if it is a museum piece . i understand how important to the builder to do it right is to . but i also understand that if its going to be a rider that tires are a small thing and most people understand that tires are the first part to wear out in most cases. if its just for you and you can live with it maybe just leave the ones on it or maybe a nice set of white walls . 250 dollars is to much money for a original tire to be rode on . like i said if its museum quality and just going to be looked at then you might have to think about that . if not run them old tires or a schwinn repop most people would never know the difference any way . you know what im saying . good luck and wish you had done videos to brother would be cool to see .

Nice build. It's interesting to see the difference between the work of a bike mechanic and a more metal worker oriented appoach. I think you should get a new chain nevertheless. The old one is for sure streched out way beyond dead and therefor will tear down the teeth of your cogs aggresively, something you definitely don't want to happen to your oldtimer.

My mom had a similar box, same moxy frame... I believe it was a Schwinn Deluxe... Is there such a bike as a Schwinn Deluxe? This bike is almost perfect. It was very easy to assemble. kzbin.infoUgkx2YFGCCEkXKgqCOH-7vlvgb4L4hg4IrXI The fit was great as well. I am 5'11" and 160 lbs with a longer torso and rather shorter legs, and 55cm is a perfect fit. Every component seems to be pretty decent and durable except the rear wheel. It was a bit lob-sided and also the freewheel component is either missing a ball bearing or under lubricated, which prevents the wheel from rotating freely. Because of that, it requires more pedaling and also climbing hills a lot harder than expected. Other than the back wheel, I like everything else about it. Affordable and well-built.** UPDATE **It turns out the sound was caused by the tight chain tension. Once I loosen it up by moving the backwheel a tad bit closer to the crankset, the sound went away.

I notice there are two slightly different size 26 in Wheels on that bike the front wheel when you were cleaning the rust off the Chrome I believe that front wheel was a balloon tire wheel but it has a 26 buy 1.75 middleweight white sidewall in the front I believe that front wheel was a Schwinn tubular S2 now for the rear wheel it is a Schwinn tubular S7 which is 8 tire size is known as 26 by 1 and 3/4 because whoever had the bike must have gotten rid of the original front Schwinn S7 wheel but other than that that's a very cool restoration with a little bit of patina.

Is it ok to ride a bike with chain like that? My bikes chain is rusty. Do I have to change it?
@jbartnik19183 жыл бұрын
@@dickieangenson2236 Short answer: it's probably fine. Long answer: The main problem is a "spaced-out" chain. Over time, the links stretch ever-so-slightly, which will make chain-slips more frequent, and will eventually wear down your sprockets, further increasing the chance of a slip. If the rusty chain just makes it a bit crunchy, a quick wash with some degreaser and a brillo pad followed by a chain-specific oil will get you in prime working order. WD-40 also does the trick in a pinch but is not ideal.
