Oh how I wish I had your knowledge and tools when I was a younger man. I used to collect and rebuild bikes to give away at Christmas time. Now that I am older arthritis and other health issues keep me from doing what I love. Thank you for sharing your videos. (I love those older, single speed, coaster brake bikes.)

A bike like this is so fun. I received a pair of 1992 Murray beach cruisers from my folks, that don’t ride anymore. They knew I’d do something with them. I stripped them down, built up one, but added a 36t bmx chainring to the stock crankset, a nexus 3spd rear coaster hub, and some 8in ape hangers. Stock 26in street tires. The bike is a joy to ride around town and on paths. You’d think it would be heavy and clunky but no, it really is fun and nimble. The 3sp improves the practicality without detracting from the feel of a single sp/coaster brake bike.

I’m in quarantine at the moment waiting to go to work offshore, and making a shopping list to do my first big rebuild after i just got in to cycling (road). I have a 80s Giant Peleton bike which i really like, and your channel has inspired me to invest in to paint and parts. I’m a hobby mechanic but needed some visual guidance from someone, and your are it. Thanks a bunch!

This video and the previous one, have given me loads of ideas for a pair of circa 1960 Murray bicycles. Thanks for the impetus to keep them alive!

Love how this bike keeps getting better, but still nostalgic. Bikes make us feel like kids again, you know like when you had no real responsibilities and were pretty much free to just enjoy every day as it came.

Completely feel the same as you. I have an old 80's road peugeot frame bike wich I converted in singlespeed coaster brake and it's my favourite bike to ride aroind town and smooth trails. The lack of noises and simplicity and also a cambium brooks saddle wich I absolutely love. Thumbs up for your kunkler and keep riding!!

Beautiful bike, I'm a sucker for the Schwinn cantilever cruiser frame. I have three of them. A 1986 single speed cruiser painted flat black that I converted back in 2020 to a BMX style very similar to yours with the low rise BMX bars, World Force Shorty 50mm stem. I don't like coaster brakes so I converted it to free wheel and mounted a Diacompe Bulldog front brake, Profile SS cranks/bottom bracket, Kink Chainring, GT platform pedals and a Brooks B17 saddle. It came stock with a BMX style looking fork which I've kept on it but I've toying with the idea of mounting my old Girvin front suspension fork on it... 1980 Schwinn Cruiser 5 (grocery getter) I kept it the original color Cardinal Red and converted it to a 7 speed with Shimano XT cranks/chainring derailleur, Matrix rims w/ System 1 hubs, Profile Design low rise bars and a World Force 100mm stem, clip on plastic fenders, rear mount cargo rack, platform pedals and of course a Brooks B17 saddle 1960 Schwinn Panther which I've kept original with the OG seat, grips, chrome fenders, front and rear cargo racks all still in good shape. It's the headlights, trimline tank and chain guard but I still love it...

Sure like your vids, that's a beautiful redo. I'm 67. I had two coaster brake schwinns, a ~67 stingray (which i wish i still had since they are worth big moolah now) and a ~60 tiger? or something. Stingray was two speed. Other was one speed. Thanks for all the dynamite videos this channel is really special. Took a wicked fall ten days ago 39 miles into a road ride. Crashed going 18mph. two chicks inline skating landed on top of me. broke pelvis in two places and two ribs in three places. twelve weeks estimate until back on my 89 trek 8500.

I’m curious too. I’ve had the polyurethane for a while from some other projects and wondered if it would look good on a patina’ed bike frame. I love the more oily look it has over a spray on varnish. I did a couple coats. I think it may work well but we’ll see with time.

I had a Panther with basically the same frame. It had the fork with the spring at the top. My favorite handling bicycle. The front would push just the slightest bit and the rear promptly followed with imperceptible input from me. I never should have let it go.

Been a mechanic non-stop for my whole life and I'm in love with this build and all of your builds. Amazed at the risks you take with tire clearance. It turns out fantastic. You obviously have great mechanical knowledge but I would recommend adding a washer to the axle of the rear hub on the drive side to reduce possible wear to the frame from when chain tension eventually needs to be adjusted. Possibly on the non-drive side as well. Those old thin steel dropouts can be a bitch sometimes.

It's really interesting to see componentry from worlds apart meet together on this klunker.I mean, where else would you see modern MTB rims get laced to Sturmey Archer hubs that are usually at home on commuter bikes? In hindsight though, this makes for a very simplified MTB setup that requires very little mantainence, and who wouldn't love that?
