The vocal control of this group is simply amazing... The key change at "like a jewel" is phenomenal

Why this group never made more success is a mystery. I didn't know this group until 2016, but they're awesome. Superb arrangements and vocals, comparisons with The Manhattan Transfer are unavoidable but they are great in their on right. God bless 80s vocal jazz.
@ullscarf Жыл бұрын
I much prefer them to Manhattan Transfer. The music is funkier and more adventurous - more street credible, more underground. I think they are on the same wavelength as Working Week, although WW didn't have the close harmony vocals.

It just doesn't get any better than this. So blessed to grow up in the best music era ever. 60's,70's 80's 90's. STOP! I don't know what happened after that.

I was strolling the Big Apple's streets back in 87, listening to this song. Central Park, mid town and soho etc. What a great time I had...

By the time this song was released, I was living in New York City. I don't know how I could have overlooked this song. It makes me feel as though I'm back in the Big Apple again just listening to it.

What an unfortunate "Flash-In-The-Pan" was Rare Silk, a formidable rival group to Manhattan Transfer. I was blessed to soak in their catchy, ultra-harmonious grooves, including this one back in the early 1980's at Peacock Park in Coconut Grove, Florida. Gillaspe put quite a group together, but they vanished as fast as they arrived.

Gaile Gillaspie put out a solo album, she is one of the singers, I always mixed them up with The Manhattan Transfer. New Weave played in my car until😊 the cassette tape wore out!

I produced these Gals & a Guy in Concert in Steamboat Springs in the '80s , they were excellent voices and there bass player went on to fame with Spyro-Gyra ,if that's how it was spelt! There's a whole different sound to this then Manhattan Transfer ,if I remember right !!!!!

Grooving on a New York Afternoon On a Sunday went to the city hoping this will Be the one day, New York afternoon. Took the subway, went to the Village, Chinatown and Walk down Broadway, on a day in June. Strollin' through the park, what a lovely feelin', Down with the view and my heart began a-reelin'. This is our day Here in Manhattan everyone is part of our way, New York afternoon. Walked through the art show in Washington Square, Heard some jazz on the Lower East Side. We'll remember When skies are grey and snow's fallin' in December, That was a New York afternoon. New York afternoon, Such a lovely, lovely, lovely feelin', 'Cause my love is with me. We'll remember strollin', strollin' through the park, When my-y heart began to reelin', I liked the dew, glo-owing just like a jewel, Well, and then you looked, and we were hooked, What a lovely, lovely, lovely feelin'. What a feelin'! Got to get back to New York and see my baby! Oh, but I know it's not finding the moment my life is stronger. And now the New York afternoon... New York afternoon, my love... afternoon... Took the subway down Downtown, for all the way, all day, on the day, On the day, on the day... On the day in June. Here a little groove That you finding it was jewel shine, Making through the night Like you say, you're really (in) New York You've gone nowhere, Oh, but I know he's giving up his memories to share, I got to get back soon. Watching the sun set across Central Park, As the skyline glows like a jewel. Like a jewel. My love has come staring on a New York afternoon. My love has come staring on a New York afternoon... It's such a lovely feeling groovin'

My sister & I saw them at, I think, the Shrine Auditorium in San Francisco in the late 1970s as second on a bill with Benny Goodman. They were superb and I never understood why they did not get a lot more attention because Goodman seemed quite impressed with them.

Eureka!! I finally found the same version of NYA that I had listened to in1980s, which I thought it was sung by Matt Bianco, coz once I had Matt Bianco album, and among the songs was NYA in this version.. how cud it be? I just realize now that the song was put as a closure of the album, coz there was some kind of fade away.. hmm.. i didn't notice it 🙈🤔 My endless curiosity towards the original owner of NYA, drives me to find MB's first album.. Coz frankly speaking: among MB's songs at the album, NYA was my lifetime fave 😁😁😁. Bravo n Thanks Rear Silk, I do really ❤️ n appreciate your work 🙏🏿🙏🏿👍🏿👍🏿💃💃
