I've been in love with Stevie's voice since I first heard it as a boy. There is a deeply ancient soulfulness to it that I connected to and understood at that age more than the words she was singing. It's still like a blanket you can wrap yourself up in from time to time when life's winds blow a bit chilly. She'll always be the High Priestess of Rock n Roll.

I was at that concert! August 1978, Cotton Bowl. Steve Miller Band played first and I had mainly came to see him. I had been into the old blues Fleetwood Mac but had only heard some pop stuff from the new lineup and was blown away by how great they sounded that night. Better than the Steve Miller Band for sure. They were a BAND!! Powerful sounding you know, like the E Street Band or the Heartbreakers.

I went to the show and it was one of the best, Cotton Bowl summer of 78. Two weeks earlier I had gone to the first Texas jam and it was burning hot! The nite Fleetwood Mac was there it was hot also but 30 minutes after it started cloud cover came over the stadium and the temp dropped 15-20 degrees and it was near perfect.

I never got to see them play. I went to the Texas Jam in the Astrodome in 83 or 84 I think. Uriah Heap, Sammy Hagar, Ted Nugent, Triumph, and Styx. It was an excellent show. Stage on home plate and we were about half way between the pitchers mound and home plate. What an adventure. Lots of joints passed around and all around good time.

Thanks for posting this footage of Stevie chatting with a local TV reporter as she and the band make their way to their limos on the tarmac. And I'd like to say a few things in support of the news guy. First, this was done when a two-or-three person crew--reporter and camera operator and possibly a driver--showed up in a big conversion van and had to be ready to go when the plane arrived, so they had probably been at the airport for awhile. (And the concert promoter was probably advertising the show on that station, so the station was likely adding value by providing some 'news' coverage of the band's arrival.) Second, the news guy had to interview Stevie at the foot of the stairs because the entourage was en route to the venue or hotel--no waiting around in that heat. Third, his questions got her to converse about herself and the band and it was a pleasant conversation for the most part--the camera angle and audio were excellent and for an on-the-fly chat, there was a lot to like about this. And imagine how the news started that evening: "Fleetwood Mac arrived in town this afternoon and our very own Ron Burgundy was there to talk exclusively with Stevie Nicks in this exclusive one-on-one conversation which we present now in this KDFW Eyewitness Action News Channel 5 Exclusive Report." It is the way it was back then :)

Though Fleetwood Mac music from '75 on was a listening staple for me (that includes Stevie and Lindsey's solo album), I never paid much attention to the back story of their personal lives, and didn't follow them in the rock press. It was only much later, perhaps when I saw the Behind The Music segment on VH1, did I realize what they all went through. And now with all the video clips and interviews available on KZbin, I can't help but be impressed with just how focused and driven Stevie Nicks is and was. Even the interviews from 1975 are impressive.
