Tito Schipa esteve no Teatro Municipal da Cidade de São Paulo no Brasil em meados da década de 1930 e conheceu o cantor brasileiro Orlando Silva onde pediu que o Orlando Silva nunca estudasse o canto pois o estudo iria tirar toda naturalidade do canto, e Orlando Silva seguiu seu conselho e foi um dos maiores cantores brasileiros das décadas de 30/40/50/60/70.

A 13anni provavo la mia emissione ascoltando questo meraviglioso artista... Un vero gioiello, una pennellata vola leggera ma timbrata sempre sul fiato con un appoggio incredibile. Grazie Tito Schipa mito e paladino della mia giovane formazione e ancora oggi lo ascolto con la stessa devozione.

Too many people (as usual) judge tenors by how LOUD and BIG their voices were. One only has to read comments about Paoli and Del Monaco and how they could tear telephone books apart with their voices and how no other tenor should even walk the earth because they couldn't beat Del Monaco in a fight in a bar. Schipa's voice penetrated and roe above the orchestra - it did penetrate and it worked. Big voices, small voices: if they "work" they work. This is charming which was Schipa's forte.

Yes, we agree. Tito Schipa was the master of bel canto and he told my father in law shortly before he died that he had no regrets. He made and lost two fortunes, saw virtually every major country on Earth and made love to many beautiful women, so if death took him, he welcomed it! Shortly afterward, he was due to perform at Hunter College, NYC, around 1964, in an evening recital but had to cancel at the last moment due to poor health. He later passed away in the hospital. But my husband and I frequently enjoyed his recordings and treasure the signed photo of Tito next to my father in law, Salvatore Monte. Just listening to his melodic voice easily brought tears to Pop's eyes.

@j72050 I loved Lanza, but he does not belong on the list of great tenors. Why? Because he never sang on the operatic stage and risked everything. Everything that we ever heard of him was produced in a studio. Re: Schipa, yes, his voice was small but no less beautiful.

I play the violin and I sing...and I say without hesitation that Tito Schipa was magic. He played his instrument in such a way that Luciano Pavarotti said that Schipa is unsurpassed. In his phrasing and in the way he sang, he was a master forever.
