RIP Allen Collins. He never makes the "top 100" guitarists of all time list but boy he sure was! I often wonder how many great songs and guitar riffs were inside of Steve Gains as well as he was a top flight musician as well. What a band!

On point ☝️ and it's so good to know these iconic & deserving ones are viewed as I am in heart forever in loss of the and the future they and is all were robbed of ...I'd love to throw some overated under achievers under the tour bus but that's my pain and misguided anger loosing our boys.. my pretend big brothers who taught me life and it's precautions of drugs & drinking..didn't follow it to the rule but heard their please saving a multitude of generations .. my bros my family and I'll fly a flag in their honor and if fools mistake my use they can get in line as I would bleed for it or make bleed however it may go ....love ya all...100 Plus.....

Steve brought new life to the band. I wonder too. Such a surreal tragedy to have had a dream come true - on a suggestion to use him by his back up singer sister, only to be snuffed out after one album. Then to have Ronnie give him the spotlight of lead vocals on some songs. That probably did as much as anything to prove his talent was real.

Allen Collins' solo on The Needle and the Spoon always reminded me of Eric Clapton's solo on Badge. He didn't just pick, he ripped and nailed all the little details. I hope he and his loved ones are flying free in the eternal rhelm.

I graduated in 79 saw allot of concerts but did not get the chance to see Skynyrd we did not get allot of sourthern rock bands around New England and my concert days started right around the time of the plane crash I believe they were scheduled to come through after street survivors came out. It was a great time for concerts 6 to 8 dollars for the show another 2 for a T shirt a buck fifty to park and you could get high just standing in the place.

I'm sorry but the GOAT is the Allman Brothers. Skynyrd just wrote songs more appealing to the general public instead of being a "Southern Jam Band". Not everybody can handle several songs in a set just wandering off into long jams that are different from the record, that's why Skynyrd is more POPULAR. However the Allman Brothers set the table and the plates as well as cooked a fair bit of the "food" that Skynyrd built off of.

I was a fan in the seventies of the original band. I was fortunate enough to see them three times in Columbia South Carolina. I cannot even explain the grief that came with the losses of the plane crash in 77. However, I am grateful for the music that I can still enjoy today. May all four of those lost in the crash, rest in peace today and forever.

I was fortunate enough to see the band twice before the plane crash. The first time was in December of 1973 when they opened for The Who at the Montreal Forum. A friend and I had taken a bus from Toronto. We had never heard of them and had no idea what to expect. Needless to say, they were amazing. In those days opening acts seldom received a standing ovation but Skynyrd did. They returned to the stage and played a very long version of Free Bird. Almost 50 years and countless concerts later, it remains one of my favorite memories.

They went way too soon the greatest Southern band ever, and it's very eerie how this concert and this song in particular almost as if they had a premonition...

I understand the way this group having a grudge each other since for them is like one hit wonder, which the closeness is inseparable to run that show until that day: part of this song, that he predicted his own death, not even by suicides, or drugs, but fate-meaning, he’s ready for it.RIP⚜️
