welcome to my vintage speaker and amplifier video!
here you may see a working speaker and amplifier from the early 1940s that i have gotten to work again with a little care.
I am not sure what type of speaker this is yet so maybe you can answer that :) hope you enjoy this video.
music used in this video is made by me:

These radios used to work with an exterior antena and ground connection.

Very little stațions left anyway. But you may still get a station or two.

@@MrGigi-dz9cv yes this radio can tune in am signals but where I live there is practically nothing to find as even all am bands are shut down ages ago. But I been able to hear a little from other countries when messing around but it’s not of any good enough quality to enjoy. But as long as I can use the other input I can play anything I want anyway. So I am never really caring about the radio function of any radio without the FM band. So when I make a restore I either use the gramophone input or make an aux mod on it so that I can play music with the radios I want to work with that. The oldest stuff I have that can play music is from 1930

That is most likely not just an electromagnet. They usually serve a dual purpose. You can't just replace the speaker with a permanent magnet speaker.
@Pulverrostmannen

That is correct, the coil is also a choke for filtering the the high voltage that powers the tubes so it cannot be swapped to a permanent magnet without either way putting in a resistor in its place or use a separate choke

Did I hear you correctly that you don't have radio (or maybe just not AM) in your country? The cool thing with AM is at night you can pick up broadcasts for thousands of miles with a decent AM radio. Those old tube radios were usually fairly sensitive. I am surprised you cannot pick up foreign AM stations in the dark.

tarstarkusz All the AM bands here are shut done permanently in this country. There is FM radio still broadcasted so we still have that. I can tune in some outbound AM radio with this Radiola if I want but the reception is weak even with a modern receiver to a point of almost unusable and it is not that fun to listen to either so I mostly make it possible to play with other audio sources on tube amps and radios. But this Radiola is refurbished to work and is not modified in its functions. I also have a big Dux radio that I fixed that can also tube in both AM and a part of the FM band but not all of it. Yet again I don’t think our radio is much worth listen to anyway lol

I'm surprised to hear you have so much trouble, especially with little AM interference. I have a small AM/FM receiver and as I mentioned, I can often receive broadcasts more than a 1000 miles away at night. I wonder why they shut the AM down. There really isn't much to gain by doing so. FM sounds way better than internet radio which are usually in a fairly low bitrate. But it is true that they have fired a lot of the DJs and don't play much of a variety, and I live in a fairly large market.

tarstarkusz I think it is much longer than 1000 miles to the closest AM transmitter were I live. I am located at the west side of Sweden close to the border of Norway so the closest AM transmission is from Germany or something like that. It’s not only the long wave transmitters that are shut down here. Also all analogue TV is permanently shut down here as well. It’s only the FM band that is left now. As for the radio itself, pretty much every channel sends the same music 24/7 if you heard one channel you heard all the rest and it is very boring stuff they send too so I don’t care so much about the radio anyway
