Su Bingtian already fastest man in history over 60m. Liu Xiang already Olympic gold medalist and also world champion in hurdles. China already broke many misconceptions that Asians cannot win in track and field, but also still has a long way to go. It's just that track and field is not as popular as other sports in China at grass roots, and unless you are the top 0.001% you cannot make a living from it. Either way I don't think it is that important. China doesn't need to prove itself to anyone since they already showed that it is possible for Chinese(and other Asians) to compete with world's best in anything including running or other track and field if they actually cared to compete seriously and have the grass roots interest and support and funding from gov to develop that sport or discipline. No, what would be more important and groundbreaking is for China to develop a world class soccer/football team and do well in a world cup. Even south Korea and Japan have done well and made it to quarter or semi finals. Yet China cannot even qualify for WC let alone make a deep run.

习是红二代，不能算基层。不过他个人早期的曲折经历确实让他对普通基层民众有一定感情，而且他的父辈那一代人确实是代表穷人利益的,所以我觉得他尽管后来身居高位，但搞扶贫确实是有从国家治理和个人情感双重考虑的，是发自内心的，不像是走过场。他应该还是挺相信共产党早期一些代表老百姓利益的主张的，所以对腐败应该确实是深恶痛绝的，不像是仅仅出于权力斗争作为铲除异己的手段。我个人倾向于认为，习尽管肯定会有他自身的时代局限，但总体上看是个品德和能力都属上等的政治家。
