A lot of collectors go to the bank and withdraw x amount (£500) whatever you have spare in like £2 coins or 50ps to find the rare ones. This massively helps build your collection.

Hi, I just want to say that i own a tiggy winkle 50p and another one you didn't mention in the video called Tom Kitten. The tiggy winkle can be found on ebay for over 500 pounds but can be found in a till or withdrawn from a bank quite often, but as for the Tom kitten it is extremely rare and goes up in price almost daily and has officialy been sold in britain for 580 pounds and has been on a mail in england.

Iv got so many 50p coins & £2 i had to comment when you said about the kew garden coin i have 2. Im not a coin collector but i happened to come across the the Shakespeare coin ever since then I keep on finding coins in my change I'm unsure of what to do with these coins I don't want them but I don't know who to sell them to it would seem I have a lot of rare ones too

Same..I'm not a coin collector either and i just put my weird looking 50ps in a jar.And i must have at least 80-110 of them now and like you i dont know what to do with them either.And you see clips from papers saying "Have you got this coin it could be worth £1,500-2,000 pound".And then when you check the value on EBAY it says they are worth 50p..Lols

Took me ages to get a suffragettes, in the end i got a couple by doing bank runs as i never had any in my change at all. I have all the 50p's here apart from Kew, Isaac Newton, and those rare ones at the end (EEC/Christmas). I also finally completed my 2012 sports series album yesterday which was nice, i already had the one i needed in a royal mint pack, but didn't want to open a brilliant uncirculated one and so waited until i could get a circulated one. Also, nice peter rabbit collection, i only got the one myself, but considering the chaos on the website that day, securing one at all was quite a feat. Loving that trial pound too, i'd love to get one of those at some point.

When i first tried to order the coin at 7.30 that morning, the website slowed to a crawl and crashed, when i tried again at 11, the queue was 9900, but thankfully i was lucky enough to be able to secure one. I saw the queue at over 50,000 that evening, it was insane!

I had the kew garden way before it was known to be rare, came out M&S self service machine. But as soon as i paid for shopping i saw there was a chocolate bar near those damn machines, i used the change including rare 50p to buy a little bar of chocolate. Biggest regret. about 7 years ago i bought the suffragette coin and the banister coin in there original packs from ebay, this was before it became a popular hobby. anyway i paid about 20 pound each because it was the first time i sore them after ages of looking. now when i go on ebay im struggling to see most older coins in original packs there becoming like hens teeth. i was lucky i started my collection when i did which was about 9 years ago. i only must of paid about 400 pound for my entire collection of all coins in there original packs. if i started from scratch to day i would properly be paying a 1000 pound+. it is stupid the amount of money there going for considering there not that rare its just that people are hording them. not many people today could get the old coins in mint condition and i find that sad. quick question do you no why the royal mint never released the 2005 dictionary 50p in a stand alone presentation pack? i spent years looking for it but could not find it then someone told me they never released it. do you know why?

Most informative but to be brutally honest as a bog standard, not well off collector I'm getting pretty pissed off with all the "extra" minting of 50p pieces! It seems the Royal Mint (who make a bloody fortune anyway) are getting greedy! 50p for this, 50p for that, why they couldn't just stick to normal minting comes up as one word - GREED and I'm sick of it! No offense but this may be great news for dealers but as a 50p collector, with limited funds I've had to call a halt! My 50p collection will only be from my change (and a few people who put them aside for me)! Any thoughts welcome.
