Jerry Reed is the Man! Chet is the Man! A partnership like no other. To say Chet ruined his style with weird tunings WTH? They made each other better players and Chet even did a whole album called “Chet Atkins Picks on Jerry Reed” and went on to record 30-40 Jerry songs. Jerry always said it was Chet that brought His multi-flavored style out of him coming from a session player, he was the guitarist and his songs for the Elvis 68’ Comeback special, Two extraordinary players that innovated styles that are just as relevant today. Chet completely ruined his picking style. Chet never expanded his style to any of the modern 1960s tunes like the girl groups, and solo artists and soul singers from the mid 60s.He went from smooth as silk to herky jerky odd ball bases and tunings like Jerry Reed.

I would check out "Me and Jerry". It's my favorite album-- complete with covers of the beach boys, the beatles, and simon&garfunkel. I think you'll find Chet Atkins really did have an open-mind when it came to music and covered a lot of the contemporaries; if anything it's what kept him relevant into the 90s. They have most of his albums on spotify.
