He was playing Peavey P-60 guitar that the maker was paying him to play; they didn't catch on. Observe his whole band playing them, they are more one-note, sonically from Fenders. He was such a genius, you hardly notice.

So smooth & effortless, and a beautiful song. There's a lot of flashy guitar players in all genres of music but no one plays quite like the legend did.

Jerry was an awesome guitar picker! I had an opportunity to talk to him during a show in Kentucky and asked him why he wasn’t fingerpicking songs and he said he just couldn’t do it anymore. He was amazing to watch. I think he was a good person and funny as anyone could be. We lost a good one!

Tommy was one of the most talented guitar players ever! When he was 16 his family moved to Tennessee in pursuit of his dream. My father (Bruce Osbon) was hired as his guitar teacher. At the time Tommy was only 15 or 16. My father only had Tommy as a student for a couple of years and then they simply became picking buddies. As good as my father was, as Tommy got older my dad wouldn’t even pick up a guitar in his presence, content to just listen to him pick. When he released this song, as it happened, Chet released his version at the same time. Guess which one got air play? As enamored as Chet was of Tommy, I think there was a tad bit of jealousy as well. He was taken from us too soon and never reached the heights he absolutely should have!

I went to see him a couple of times when I was a kid. Thought he was pretty cool. Now I see him on here and realize YEP! HE WAS COOL. I mean the whole band was playing Peavey guitars and using Peavey amps. Who would've thought? In these days of Fender/Gibson domination. Gotta get me another Peavey setup. Then maybe I can be cool too.

My dad played this style to a tee. I cried when I heard this because my dad passed 9 years ago and I'd never heard anybody play the same style my dad played.

Heh heh, he left out the part about Amos' daddy using him for alligator bait and twice sang about Amos losing his arm clean up to the elbow. But it all worked fine and the band behind him just followed along with no problem. This is the mark of true professional artists. They can make it sound good, even when they screw up.
