Hi! Guys and gals please remember that you dance to dance not to make a move on somebody else! Please behave... keep the other dancer close but keep the hands for yourself and don't imagine things that are not there... If there is anything there... you'll find out later talking. Enjoy the dance... just the dance! :)

One thing that I think is really important is smiling. I see a lot of people who look so concentrated or even bored that they don't seem to enjoy the dance at all. In fact, I was doing that as well at the beginning but now I get a lot of positive feedback because I smile all the time. And to be honest, I have a reason to smile when I'm at a salsa party! And also connecting to the partner - only for the dance though. It's disturbing to dance with a guy who barely looks at you while leading and I'm sure it's the same for the guys if the girl is looking everywhere but at them...

Tough one but you did good. I find that I have regular dancers that I dance with & we seem to feel comfortable with each other while others lithely I never ask. You Rasa are the only professional dancer I ever dance with because I don't feel that you look down on me. That makes it safe to have fun & even experiment/play.
@DanceWithRasa4 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of professionals just want to have fun and dance :) sometimes there is this stigma that we dont and people afraid to ask, but all we want is a dance 😊

OMG it is so true about the connection during dancing - it is not translating to outside the dancefloor! I was so stressed about it when I have started to dance. I like to dance in sensual way sometimes and I was all the time thinking that I hope the guy will not think that I feel like that about him, because many times I have felt romantic or sensual just in dancing with him, not in "real life"! I guess you can apply it to both sides, I feel like we have to talk about it more in dance community.

Great video. I am an advance dancer and assist my teacher with all beginners Salsa and Bachata classes. I see many younger and older people coming to the class and "falling" for experienced dancers. At the beginning they cannot tell a difference between kind helpful attention and romantic attention and this leads to "crashes and broken hearts" I have seen a younger man being prohibited to dance almost in all downtown studios because of sexual accusation. I just wish your advice would spread widely so people could get educated not only on behavioural ethicats but on understanding of experiences they go thru while leaning to dance. It is okey to be fascinated by advance or professional dancer but instead of creating fantasies and acting on them better to form a simple friendship and see where it is going to lead you. I hope it makes scene what I am trying to say.

I think tip number 6 should be don't go dancing after you've been drinking with your friends. Almost every time a woman has behaved inappropriately towards me while dancing she's been very drunk and arrived at the event drunk.
@DanceWithRasa2 жыл бұрын
There is that, or don't drink if you know you can not control yourself 😉.

What you said about guys "suffering from attention", really felt that my first few months on the dance scene. Was sooo confusing and got myself hurt a few times wrongly reading into dance connection or girls flirting purely to get some attention back. I hope new, socially naive leads find your videos!

That was a great video with a very interesting topic. I appreciate your wisdom and knowledege, the idea that I retain is to promote a positive dance environment. I live in a not so big city with only 3 salsa venues, so it is a little community of people that I hope I'll be friends for years. I love you !!

If I had to give a tip to the ladies, it would be be ASK the guys you enjoy the dancing with or want to dance with. Because guys often have no idea if the follows enjoy dancing with them or even if they are any good. So there are mind games where the follow hovers around a guy wondering if he will ever ask her, but don't straight up ask. Not sure if this is because the ladies are shy, if they think this will lead them on, if this is validation they don't want to give. If all the ladies started asking then the guys would know where they are as dancers. They also wouldn't be leading them on since all the ladies do it. It also gives them a confidence boost and I guarantee you the guy will enjoy the dance a lot more. I mean we are living in an era if gender equality. The old rule of the guy being proactive and always has to ask makes no sense.

I think the 5th tips is interesting. I never thought one could do anything about guys acting inappropriately. So the arrangers could really step into that kind of situation? Interesting

I actually found recently as a girl some professionals /teachers they don't reject but feel like they don't want to dance with me, some kept me on the side keep saying later but never happens, or when they do they just do basic moves or not paying attention at all, chat to their friends - happened sometimes too when they were the one asked me to dance. I found it disrespectful I'd rather they say no or we don't dance with students. I never had this experience before, maybe because I was not advanced enough to want to ask and also after covid a lot of new teachers come to the scene.
@DanceWithRasa2 жыл бұрын
I feel you, so many stories like that and definitely that is very disrespectful, if that happens always remember it says everything about them that you need to know, find people who spread joy instead ❤

I dont understand this whole “don’t lead the guy on”. How do girls lead them on in dancing ? It’s just a dance. I need a little more elaboration. As I’m learning, I appreciate leads helping me learn but I notice many times they end up hitting on me. What could I be doing to cause this? And how do I stop it. I just want to improve my dancing with different partners
@KT-no8ll2 жыл бұрын
Don’t pretend you fancy a guy that you don’t, just because you like the attention. Equally, when you say they are hitting on you, unless they are directly asking you out, or doing something they shouldn’t, you may be reading into it.
@DanceWithRasa2 жыл бұрын
Usually the woman who lead somebody on are aware or they do not like the guy but being very nice and friendly without noticing potentially that he is showing attention more then just a friend. Perfect example, if someone asks you for a dinner and you don't want to go you should say thank you very much but I'm not interested rather then I'm just busy maybe next time , leaving him hopeful 😊 does that makes sence ? I by no means mean its you , just general. Maybe everybody hitting on you cause you just a nice positive person 💖
@lindarivera89542 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. I started salsa like 2 months ago with my husband but we enjoy dancing with everyone but i notice sometimes i get hit on by guys i guess my advice would be just to be honest with them and say you are there to learn and get better at dancing, remember that men will mostly always try to see how far they can get but it’s up to the woman to respect herself and not allow them to continue whatever they are trying to get . As a married woman i always have to state I’m happily married but sometimes guys don’t care so i have to remind them im strictly about dancing period.
