@@ZacharyRamsey-py7ftbaseballs are reasonably durable. they don’t switch the ball because of degradation exactly but because scuffs and dirt can change how it grips and spins. i think it’s a rule in the mlb, which is why you see catchers hand the ball to the umpire. otherwise pitchers might like to use a scuffed ball, as one of the most common forms of cheating in baseball is pitchers applying an illegal foreign substance to the ball
