Revelation: As you know I've been thinking a lot about outside step HiC and, in particular, how it differs from inside step. The more I'm thinking about it the more I'm starting to believe the differences are actually very small. The finishing point for penetration is the same for both moves. What dictates which penetration you use? Distance, pressure, and angle at the beginning of the penetration step (keep in mind I've been wrong once or twice). So why the heck am I talking about HiC on an underhook commentary? I'm starting the think about the footwork from the two throw by you discussed as penetration steps (I'm also doing this on the slide by positions we are exploring). The finishing point looks fairly similar from "crow hop" foot work ( 8:10 freeze frame is what starting this thinking). If I continue along the logic loop of the HiC example, what causes the different penetration/footwork to be a more efficient option? I haven't thought about throw by enough to be any kind of certain yet, but my initial instinct is starting head position and my opponents pressure. If my opponent backs out of the position and buries his head Rashidov's footwork seems very efficient at first glance. My 4th will now by filled with thoughts of throw by footwork and finish positions. I love this stuff!!! Thank you for the hours you're putting into these videos. Also an idea I had from studying the differences in Russian and Iranian underhooks is that your hand is of very little importance. Focusing on controlling with your elbow pit made more sense after some hours of film study. That may help you think about underhooks a bit differently as it did me.
